BMR is the amount of calories your body needs to just runs it's basic functions. So if you were to lay in bed without changing your breathing or moving a muscle that would be your BMR, so you're HRM is going to be a little higher since you've been moving around (walking, bending, showering (which warms you raising BMR)). I have a really basic calculation that RD use to figure out BMR, if you'd like it email me. That way it'll give you a better idea to go by, rather than conflicting sites (which probably use different types of calculations)0

ive calculated my BMR before when i did my nutrition course and it was around 1450 and with lifestylle added it was around 175000 -

HRM is a better device to determine how many calories you personally burn everyday. You should see if you are getting an average number through out a week and divide that by 7 so you know what your average daily calories burned are. LIFESTYLE does not necessarily include exercise, most likely it is what you typically do day in and day out and exercise is usually added for most people.
BMR is a basic calculation to give you an idea for your age, height and weight and lifestyle you chose to give you a basic idea of how many calories it takes for you to just live your normal life, it also, does not usually take into account exercise unless you purposely put it in and you actually do each day.
HRM, more accurate to your body
BMR, just an educated guess as to what the average person does burn each day0 -
I have done several calculations on my daily activities using different sites and added them all up to determine my daily calorie usage. It is always a LOT more than what the calculations say based on my age, height, and weight x activity level. For example, MFP says my BMR is 1371 and maintenance is 1970 (based on lightly active). However, if I go to the AARP site and add up every single thing I do it comes to about 2,450. Bodybuilding.com tells me that my BMR is 1903 and my maintenance is 2,616 (also based on lightly active).

So how much should it be? I'm not at all sure.
Sorry Katy, I wasn't a bit of help, was I?:laugh:0 -
You also have to remember that HRM's are only about 80-85% accurate. I've always wanted to wear mine all day but just never got around to it.0
