Was thinking about doing this at work instead of using an office chair. Wonder how many cals that would burn in an 8hr day?

I've been thinking about this too!0 -
A 150-pound person will spend 84 calories sitting for an hour. Can I log "sitting" under exercises? :drinker:0

Wow never knew this! I am a mobile hairdresser and can stand 5 hours at a time working on some ones hair!0

some of the crossfit people are switching there desks for standing desks for this purpose.0

wish i could sit down in my job, being in nursing I am stood for 8 hours a day walking around clinic lifting or pushing patients in wheelchairs. I get half hour lunch beak to sit and re-energise. Downside is I am too tired after work to even think about doing any proper exercise. I fit in 500 crunches before bed thats about it for working days.0

Thats cool, but surely you would never really log it as exercise?0

I like standing sometimes but to get an extra 90-240 for a full 8 hr day of standing.....bleh.....Ill sit and stand when I need to stretch.0 -
Interesting... never thought of it from a calorie perspective. I redesigned my home office space last year... raised the desk so I could work comfortably while standing when needing to move about a little or stretch. I use a "lab" chair which is high enough to allow me to sit and work comfortably when wanting to sit down. Still probably would actual log it... but doing what you can to limit being sedentary is a good thing.0

Thanks! Great reminder! =D0

Yeah, might be a good idea if I worked from home, but I'm pretty sure my employer would not be crazy about the idea of a treadmill in my upstairs office (I work in a doctor's office). :ohwell: Awesome idea, though! :glasses:0 -
I have a standing desk and wear a BodyMedia Fit.
Honestly, the difference in calories burned over the course of a workday from when I had a regular desk to having a standing desk was barely noticeable in my totals.0
