Will it even itself out????

Hi.. So I was wondering if you go over on calories one day but then are still under your weekly goal will things just even themselves out???.. I'm off work for a bit & it's hard to stay under my calories everyday as I'm out alot with friends so yesterday for example I was over by about 3000 calories but if im still under my weekly goal will this be ok from time to time??? Thanks in advance for any replies ;)

I believe it's OK from time to time, as long as the excesses & deficits aren't too extreme (e.g. eating 3,000 kcals today & making up for it by eating 500 kcals tomorrow). I find the occasional 'over' days helps a) stop feelings of deprivation, and b) gives my metabolism a little 'kick' from time-to-time (and yes, before I get shot down, I'm aware many disagree with this hypothesis but it works for me!).

Thanks!.. & I agree with your theory too actually.. I usually have 1 day off a week where I don't log & eat & drink plenty of calories but the week after I've still lost weight so it must work for some people!!

It drinking wine which takes me over... An an all dayer with my friends 2 bottles of wine is like 1200 calories then throw in a few fruit ciders & your looking at another 700 then a decent meal to soak it all up lol... When I go out with friends I hate sitting there counting calories & I refuse to worry about it when I am out.. Have just been looking and Malibu or vodka are very low calorie when put with a diet mixer only like 51 calories so I'm gonna start drinking them that should save me plenty of calories!!

WHEN I drink now ((which I have learned it takes a lot less for me to get a buzz!)), I will drink crown & diet. It has 62 calories total.

The way I look at is is this... We start with our Daily Calories Goal which will help us meet our Weekly Goal & then Monthly Goals.

Although it may not seem like doing too much damage, if I were to consume 3,000 over my daily goal that is actually about 2 and a half days worth for me at 1,200. Makes me realize those drinks or extra calories in food aren't worth it.

We all need a day here & there to enjoy our LIFE. :) If you can still lose the weight ((and feel healthier than before)) while having some days where you go over, then so be it! Our bodies all react in a different way :)
well said!!... & I'm also gonna change my drink to a lower calorie version... Thanks for your advice ;)

I actually had BETTER results when I started paying more attention to weekly goals rather than daily. If I go over one day, I can make up for it another day. Sometimes I even bank calories for a future event that I know is coming up. I started to use a spreadsheet to keep track and I have really seen my results improve.

It does even out. A 3,000 binge is kind of high, so you don't want to plummet down to 500 cals the next day just because that would probably shock your body. If a holiday is coming up or another big party or something when I want to stuff my face, I might cut 100 extra cals each day that week leading up, or each day the week after. I always think of my calories in and calories out in terms of a week rather than a day. Look up "calorie cycling" or "zig-zagging" and you will see this is a very accepted method for many people. To may it's a way you can diet and still be social without being the weirdo ordering a salad with no cheese when all your friends get burgers.

yeah I've read up on the whole zig zag thing & from what it says it is an accepted method & does work. I suppose it's good to keep your body guessing & thus your metabolism going as opposed to your body getting used to a certain number every day.. I don't splurge that much usually & as I've said I'm gonna change my drink to a spirit from time to time & that'll save me alot of calories... Thanks alot for your advice too

On a side note, the numbers that MFP comes up with for your BMR, TDEE etc. are rough guesses. We all burn different amounts of energy from day to day. Factors such as health, time of the month, etc can effect your BMR.

Are you sure a bottle of wine is 1200 calories? That seems high to me. I would think more like 800 calories.

Oh yeah. Just looked it up. A full bottle of wine has 750 ml in it. This is about 25 ounces. Each 5 oz glass of white wine is about 125 calories - so a whole bottle is about 500 calories. So you really overcharged yourself for that wine!!!

It depends on the type of wine some have about 500 & others 600 the ones I had yesterday were 585 a bottle.. I barcode them & it came with exact match so I think the calories were right..

Oh. I thought you said one bottle was 1200 calories! Now I see that you had two as 1200 - that sounds more like it.
