The skinny on reality TV

Other than a few seasons of AI and stuff like Deadliest Catch and Dirty Jobs, I really don't watch reality TV. However, last year TV Guide Channel started running a show called Nail Files centered around a nail salon in LA and the woman who owns it and her life.

Well, the woman who's the subject is someone I went to high school with, so of course I have to watch that one and I've seen every episode so far.

So, my question is this: It seems like it's pretty much just a 30-minute commercial for the show's sponsors. I mean, they're always pushing SOMETHING. It annoys. Are all these shows like that?

Yes. Survivor is so bad for this. Cars, cell phones, soda, body wash, you name it, Survivor has found a way to pimp it.

It's SO annoying. I don't even like this show, but I know this girl, so it's kinda cool so I torture myself and watch it. lol

Product placement. It is a big deal in the world of marketing.

I know. But most of the time, it's just a character picking up and pouring a box of cereal or something, not going on and on and on and on about how great the cereal is.

They were doing that A LOT on Bones for a while. They must have heard enough complaints because they toned it way down last season. I was ready to stop watching the show because of it.
