  • Fat is freakin' delicious. Gross, huh?

But really, I'm with Sidesteal, consuming excess energy makes you (and me, don't worry!) fat. Peope say fat makes you fat because it is extremely high in calories. It doesn't actually make you fat but it significantly increases your calorie count, even in small amounts. It's important not to forget that there are good fats and bad fats. Try and avoid the bad fats as much as you can but your body actually needs small amounts of the good ones. Don't neglect the fat!!!!

Yep, doesn't matter if the calories are carbs, protein, or fat. Excess calories make you fat. Fat is the easiest macronutrient to store however, so in case of excess calories, it is most likely to be the fats that get stored.

Eating fats doesn't make you fat, just like eating things that are green doesn't turn you green.

However, eating orange food can turn you orange. Carrots are well known for that.

Any truth to this? Doesn't sound right to me.

It would be nice if there were different words for dietary fat and body fat because the way it is now, people hear the word fat and automatically assume it's bad.

Fatty acids can be stored directly in adipose tissue with no conversions required. Both protein and carbs would have to be converted into triglycerides before they can be stored, and that happens only after the protein and carbs have been utilized for their other functions. Fat gets stored directly until needed.

Carbs are stored as glycogen too, then as fat once the glycogen stores are full providing there are excess carbs beyond the fuel needs.

Am I right in thinking that you are not what you eat, so there is conversion involved from the fats you eat to the fats you store ? ie the type of fat is converted ?

Fatty acids are stored as they are. They move directly into the blood stream and into adipose tissue upon ingestion. As for glycogen, the body stores roughly 1350 grams of glycogen when its stores are completely full, so you would need to eat several hundred grams of carbs a day in order to get any kind of fat storage, as glycogen is constantly burned 24/7.
