I usually go to the health club near where I live for my morning elliptical stint. I was going to stop by Walgreen's to return a health snack--that was not so healthy---but got stuck with administrative work for my business--I work from home on one of the most tourist-trafficked streets in NYC. So--I missed the whole morning routine --when I am out and about on my bike, stopping here and there--before heading home to work. Instead-I am sequestered in my office --working away---when I get a long distance phone call from my sister-in-law in Washington--

She's heard about a shooting---and I said....In NY ---unfortunately-- that's not uncommon and I'M FINE.

Then the phone rings AGAIN---it's my mother---and then my brother---from CALIFORNIA ---saying they were glad to hear my voice. Now--I'm like whaaaaaaat?

I was told there was a shooting on MY STREET. I quickly Google and there was indeed a shooting ----11 people --one woman died---RIGHT WHERE I LIVE--IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. The Empire State Building.
Normally I would have been right there--RIGHT where the shooting was--it's a normal part of my morning routine---but I was stuck in the office today.

Wow---just wow.

Needless to say--I said of prayer of thanks and then prayed for those who were harmed.

The man upstairs works in very mysterious ways.

That whole mess is awful. Glad you're okay! All the victims are in my thoughts.

Wow...that's awful. I'm so glad that you weren't there!!! Everything happens for a reason, and that is the reason why you were kept from your morning routine...

Thanks! I have yet to go out---it's totally messed with my head.

One other time in my life there was a shooting and I could have been killed but for God.. It was in my building in another part of NYC at another time. There was this guy---the janitor of the building kept making passes at me and I complained to my husband who told him off. My husband said he looked like he wanted to pull a knife---so I tried to avoid to him

One morning on the way to work--early he was behind the concierge desk ---he looked ferocious--I was timid--we were the only ones in the lobby --it was very very early and quiet---and I tried to be polite and say hi---but he waved me on--to go. So I left.

I later found out---he had shot and killed his family who lived on the premises---only a few hours before--he waved me out
and ----while I was at work---he went on to kill--one more person. The manager of the building walked in a couple of hours later and that's who he shot. He had the gun with him--when he waved me out and was just waiting to kill the manager. He also shot someone else-who worked there---but the person had his wallet in his breast pocket which lodged the bullet and it saved his life.

It still freaks me out---that he let me go--he certainly had a grievance and had nothing left to lose by taking me out
I knew God held me close that day as now.

    I still find it scary---

    Thank you!

I had an emergency surgery couple of years ago, and my mother wanted to come out for and I refused to let her.
I think the city is dangerous. You grow a second and even third skin---but my family has only one
