Does anyone else have herniated disc and get back pain during TOM?

I've actually been doing really well and haven't had any pain for WEEKS (not even a small twinge here or there) but recently my back has been hurting. Not muscle soreness but definitely nerve/herniated disc pain :(

I've been running and doing the 30DS and I'm afraid of reinjuring myself but I want to keep pushing to see change. Its TOM time and I don't know if that has any play in this pain I'm feeling.

Has any had this? Just looking for opinions.

Thanks!

I have had a herniated disk since 2005 and it has occasional flare ups. My pain specialist at the time that this occurred told me that if it flares up to take Aleve (not Advil) according to the recommended dosage for a week even if it feels better after a day or two. The anti-inflammatory will prevent sciatica from running down the nerve in the leg.

I can't see that there would be any relationship between disk herniation pain and menstrual discomfort.

I was taking naproxen so I'll Aleve it up - thanks. The only reason I ask about the TOM part is because I notice either pain or extra pain around this time :-/

Could be hormones. You mention thyroid and other issues. Have you been tested as well for gluten intolerance? I know my wife always craved bread and such around TOM, but we recently learned that she's gluten intolerant. It actually causes her quite a bit of pain when she eats gluten filled foods.

I only say this because she's in her early 30s, has a herniated disc, PCOS, Insulin Resistance, Hypothyroid, verge of type 2 diabetes, etc that you mention in your bio.

@Maril - I haven't and I don't know if I'd be able to live without gluten, lol. But thanks for the idea, I should get it checked :-/

I use to get awful pains in my back with mine. I herniated my discs twice on the job. My doctor said it was full of scar tissue which would get more inflammation then. I had a hysterectomy and it hasn't bothered me since. Well once...when I was squatting wrong and threw my back out for 3 days. :)

Ahhhh back pain is the worst! I have back issues too, when I get a bad flare up I take a naproxen. If its a twinge or sore I find a soak in the hot tub really helps.

I had back surgery 3 1/2 years ago and just this year I've started getting pain down my leg and lower back around the time of my period. I just take some Advil and I feel fine.

I had back pain during TOM or over a year. It finally got so severe I went to the Dr. and found that I had ruptured L5-S1. I developed pretty bad nerve pain, and had surgery last October. The surgery fixed it, and I feel great. I am now starting to exercise again, and try to drop the weight I have put back on with inactivity. I am nervous too about overdoing it. I never did understand why the pain was so bad during the week before TOM, but I could tell it was coming just from the back pain alone. I hope yours feels better.

I'd love to know the why too!
