What is your first memory of your childhood??

My earliest memory is of my first visit to the house I later grew up in, not long after its groundbreaking, and discovering mud and playing unsupervised in it.

I was about 4 yrs old.
The lawn hadnt been sowed yet so there wasnt any grass, just dirt .everywhere, No trees or driveway.
I remember having a great time playing wiith my brother in the dirt, and discovering some wet spots-hence mud.
We were playing wiith it like it was sand at a beach-building roads, houses etc. having a blast.
I guess i was totally intrigued with the way it felt on my hands like playdough and how we could pack it like snow etc.
Up to that point in my life everywhere else i had played outside had had a grass lawn, or concrete or driveway. so this new stuff was pretty cool-the ultimate sandbox.

strange to have as a first memory-for sure........

so whats yours? and how old were you?

Having my ears pierced..... I was 2.5yo.... Bizarre memory but it must be the pain that caused it to be remembered so vividly!

My earliest memories were when I was a year old. We lived in a pink house that to this day I could draw the floor plan for. :) The only room I could not map is the bathroom, since I was too young. I remember watching old OLD music vids with my dad, trying to remember the song. I just remember a yellow baby chick in one. I also remember going outside in my swimsuit (to me it was a 2 piece red with white polka dots. Mom says it was white flowers.) I'd play in the backyard with our puppy, Snippy. Of course, on the flipside, I remember my dad accidentally ran over him. :( I have a LOT of memories from age 1-4, then spotty from age 5-11.

It was traumatic...which is probably why i remember it...i was three...and I was "helping" my Uncle J put seat covers on his sports car. He kept telling me not to play with them because the end hooks could snap off and ricochet into an eye. Not less than 3 minutes later a hook snaps and ricochets into Uncle J's eye....BLOOD EVERYWHERE....and he was screaming in pain and rolling on the ground....

I thought he was a monster....

so I ran screaming across the farm yard to the kitchen screen door, which at age 3 I could NOT open, and somehow by sheer panic I opened the door ran screaming into the house that Uncle J was a monster and he was going to get me. He was crawling on the ground trying to get to the house with blood just streaming all over his face...i was so sure he was after me.

My Grandma grabbed me and my Grandpa ran out of the house picked up Uncle J and threw him into the truck and took off for the hospital.

Grandpa was a true cowboy and truly believed in picking heavy things up and putting them down. I can still see him lifting up 19 year old built like a brick wall Uncle J and tossing him like a rag doll into the truck......

That is my earliest memory and from that day on, I firmly believed it was my fault Uncle J's eye was hurt, it was only at Grandpa's funeral when discussing memories that Uncle J corrected me and that HE had snapped the hook himself. He hadn't realised I had blamed myself. Thank goodness his eye was fine.

But when I think of a manly man...My Grandpa will always be a comparison point for anyone that comes into my life.
