Today I am officially a PhD student. I got my letter of acceptance from the graduate school today. I am pursing my PhD in Skeletal Muscle Physiology and Biochemistry in the Dept. of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise. :drinker: Classes start in January!

(P.S.--I wasn't really worried because I've been working for the professor in charge since June. But it's still cool to be official! )

Congratulations! I know what you're feeling. I can remember the day my older son got his acceptance letter to med school and the day my younger son got his acceptance letter for his PhD program in Computer Science. Makes it all worthwhile, doesn't it? And even better, neither of those cost their old man (me!) anything!

Go out and celebrate tonight! You've earned it!

    Thank you!

34at35, I get a 2-year stipend for right now. I'm sure I'll get another one for the last half of my PhD. Kinda nice that they pay YOU to go to school!

Yep, my younger son is working on his PhD now. His stipend is $30K per year. And he got to spend the summer working on a fellowship in China! Traveled the whole country and even visited places few westerners ever see.

You have my heartfelt congratulations and condolences.

    I kid. . .I kid. . .

Welcome to the stressful, wonderful world of PhD candidacy. You'll be fantastic. And trust me, you will earn every penny of that stipend.

34at35, that is a handsome stipend, just FYI.

Wow, that's incredible! I'm not sure yet what my stipend will be. Fortunately the cost of living here is low...it's a college town. I won't get any fellowships like that though unfortunately!

LOL thank you! I have gotten a taste of working full-time in the lab and sat in on a couple classes so I'm good at time-management. But I know it will throw some curveballs and leave me frazzled at times and I can't WAIT.

Yeah, he's a lucky young man. Last summer China, the previous one he hiked the Inca Trail, and next summer has reservations to climb Kilimanjaro. He plans to juggle his way to the top. Juggled the entire Platte River Half Marathon last April. The Boulder Bolder before that. And several Fourteeners this fall after getting back from China in August. Must get that from from his mother's side of the family.
