I guess I am losing muscle not fat? I will be going on a trip next week, as soon as I get home, I will start lifting weight. but have no idea how many calories I need for muscle gain. At this point I am more concerned with building muscle than losing weight. I understand it is difficult to do both. My currant train of thought is, build muscle mass, which will eventually burn fat? I eat clean, never get enough protien. So which is better Soy or Whey protein? And help on calories? I will open my diary, the past few days are not good. I have been sick. Today is a free day (luau)

So. 1. where do my calories need to be to build muscle, I am 5'3" and currently 217.6.
2. What type of protein is best?

Any help is good help. Thank you, Keri

  • I'm very new to all this - watching what I eat and exercising, so this may not be much help :embarassed:, but...

Do you do any strength training exercises (free weights, machines, etc.)? If I understand my trainers, strength training exercise will help build up muscle, and the muscles then burn calories even when I'm resting. I seem to have been losing inches between watching my nutrition, strength training exercises, and cardio workouts.

As above, any weight training would be good. As far as protien, it can't hurt to go over a little in your allowance, I've found in my case. Make it lean if possible. Chicken is my favourite - some for dinner, any leftovers go great with salad, a sandwich or a small snack/treat.
