popcorn calorie confusion

Nutrition facts for Orville Reddenbacher movie theatre butter popcorn says
170 calories for 2 tablespoons unpopped or 35 calories for 1 cup popped.
Why in the heck is it more calories for 2 tablespoons unpopped vs. one cup popped? Not only that...who eats POPcorn unpopped???
Does anyone know? It's just bugging me to know why.

When it's popped it takes up a lot more space in a measuring cup than when it's unpopped. Doing the math based on your numbers below, it looks like you'd get about 5 cups of popped corn from 2 tablespoons of unpopped kernels.
Hope this helps.0 -
