Measuring Calories Correctly

I live in China where food is not served up like back home (England). Every lunch and dinner is basically like a mini buffet. For example just now we have had rice, fish, beans with pork and tofu with pork. It is really hard to gauge how much I have just eaten and I just put bits in my bowl and eat. I just don't know how much I have eaten. Although my wife cooks healthily and as long as I don't eat crap I should be OK I just don't know if my calorie count is correct each day. I put my lunch in as a 1/2 cup of a 5 course banquet at 500 cals but have no idea if that is correct as to what I have eaten. is 500 cal realistic for an average lunch? It looks good but is it correct? I am always under on my calories but that only counts if the count is correct. I have dropped alcohol which has probably reduced my calories by about 800 a day (yes, I was drinking about 5/6 pints a night every night) and my exercise now consists of about 600 cal burned so I think I am on the right path and I have lost 4kg in 2 weeks. I just want to make sure I can count the calories correct or is this too obsessive?

fast food is tricky...i go with a medium calorie intake unless i know its greasy or the portion is way big- when i log it, if i make it myself- i log each ingrediant
  • This isn't fast food, this is home cooked or restaurant cooked. As I said I live in China, Chinese cooking is not like like the fast food take away we get back home.
