So last night I saw an ad for a new show on TLC called "I Can Make You Thin". They claimed some pretty lofty promises like being able to break people of their unhealthy relationships with food. Apparently this show was a huge success in the UK. I looked up more details at http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news.aspx?id=20080227tlc01. Has anyone else seen this ad or know more about the show? How about our UK users, can you give us the scoop???

I think it is a knock off of The Biggest Loser. :laugh:0

I saw that ad last night too. I thought "Yeah, right" But by the end of the ad I was intrigued. Starts March 17 I think?? May have to at least check it out Any one know anything??
Checked out the link - I guess it premiers March 16 - not a biggest loser type thing and pshchological type of thing I guess. Sounds too good to be true - will have to see what this guy's about!0 -

Well in the description of the show it talks more about focusing on the psychological link so I think it's different than the Biggest Loser.0 -

I have not seen the ads yet, but I will keep a look out for it to see how it looks. From the posts here it does sound very interesting.0

Hi
I live in the UK and watched it.
It is a bit like hypnosis, in a way, and yeah is more psycological.
They tell you things like tapping you hand when you feel hungry (i know it sounds daft!) but it is supposed to trigger your mind to think differently!
It is really interesting, and well worth watching!

There are a lot of things other than exercising 4 hours a day that will help you lose weight. I bet this show is about some "tricks":
use smaller plates
hide food (not kidding, this works - out of sight, out of mind, out of stomach)
breaks between bites
etc.0 -
Is it just me or does anyone else think that a better title for this show would be something like, "I Can Make You Healthy," or, "I Can Make You Fit?" I just think there are too many problems that can happen when people think, "THIN," over, "HEALTHY," or, "FIT." Thin doesn't necessarily mean healthy.0

.."unhealthy relationships with food."....................**
I heard songbyrdsweet say that in a post once - and thought it was a Billiant combination of words. It encompasses all the triggers.
Bored?- eat mindlessly
Mad? - overeat - or smoke- or drugs- or drink (insert your "sins" here - see we even call them "sins")
Lazy? - eat
Frustrated ?- eat
Celebrating? - eat lots - drink lots - wake up sick - then a little "hair of the dog that bit you" - food+drink
Mourning or grieving - eat lots of stuff brought over by "friends"
Eat too much? Be mad at self.
Forget to eat? headache. Be mad at self.
Feeling fat? Punish self by not eating anything: then overeating the next day because you are dizzy
** Very unhealthy relationships with food.
I almost said "Food for thought." It's a ubiquitous issue.

I've seen that ad and was gonna ask if anyone had seen any part of the show before. I think it's premiering on Sunday night, but it looks a little kooky. If I could lose weight by squeezing my pinky finger, I'd have done that a long time ago while I was wolfing down my fries and pizza. I guess I'm a little skeptical, but don't know much about it except the ads.0

Amen, sister.
Here's to healthy!:drinker:0
