I'm doing the 30 day shred, 9 days in. Yesterday I noticed that both of my legs feel sore and hurt just below the knee, on the outside of the leg. I don't think I've got shin splints because that would be lower on the leg and covering a larger area. Any idea what this could be?
If it persists, I'll of course see a doctor. I'm curious though and wonder what your experiences are. Sound familiar to anyone?

I would say if your not used to exercise its just muscular .. It needs rest and you'll be fine again or with rest and continue it will become stronger and leass pain. I had a simular problem with running when i started back and it was down to the wrong shoes weak muscle. You can try stretching it out more after your workouts .
This stretch is hard but really works the legs and kneeshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgu6poYC-lk
Just my 2 cents0 -
I wear an elastic brace on my knee because I injured it a few years ago and it's never been the same. It still hurts a bit after I work out, but so much less when it's supported.0

I didn't have any problems with this the 8 days before. But you're right that a rest day wouldn't hurt, perhaps a bit of rest is all it needs. I'll go check out the stretch video, thank you!0 -
The 30DS is notoriously hard on the knees.
try this questionnaire - I've found it quite helpful. http://www.masterdocs.com/kneepain/start.php?c=report_adv&id=597768&hash=7b627645b21bc64fc3bc300f21980444&phash=112a01be2ba8773e8b2ad4269878647a
(You can skip past the drawing by hitting 'continue' if you struggle to get it to work. It will still generate a report based on your answers to the questions.)0 -
If it's anywhere near the knee cap or directly behind you need to get to a physio now.
Infact, go now and make sure. Knees are not something to be playing silly buggers with. Trust me. An ACL injury has made my life hell because I ignored it.
Better to be safe than sorry.
They can also give you exercises to help build the muscles around the knee to prevent injury.0 -
rest (this is very important!!!)
put ice on it and take ibuprofen to reduce any inflammation.
see a physio if it persists0 -
Thank you all for your reactions! Fortunately it is not the actual knee that is hurting, so for now rest and some ibuprofen it is. If it isn't any better in a day or 2 I'll go see a doctor! ;-)0

Best to go to the doc when it is still inflamed. A couple of days rest and icing may relieve the symptoms .... until you exercise again.0

An update: I just got back from the doctor and according to him the jumping irritated the edge of the miniscus on both knees. It might have something to do with the shape and position of my leg bones, he expects that more cushioning shoes would only help minimally. The advise is to take it easy until the pain subsides and replace high-impact cardio like all the jumping in the 30ds with lower impact cardio like on the elliptical.
Thank you again for your responses!0 -
Has he spoken to you about gaskets/braces to support the knee?
Sorry, I play derby and knees are our biggest injury and priority. I'd really say you need to speak with a physio as they know more about 'these kind of things'.
Knees are precious, you'll miss them when they are gone.0 -
No, he did not speak about the use of knee supports. I will be careful with the kind of excercises I do though, don't like the current situation one bit! ;-)0
