hi! Over 50 and Over 300 lbs... looking for buddies :)

I can't do anything about the first number, being over 50 is an inevitable fact. But the second number needs to fall - quickly!
I have a hard time being patient, I know it took years to get the weight on. I get that.

I am looking for buddies who are excited about losing weight and maybe we can encourage each other.

I struggle with finding a variety of things to eat. I have an assortment of protein bars and slim fast drinks, and I pretty much stick to that. It makes it easier for me to stick to the right number of calories without cheating. I am currently trying to venture out of my comfort zone, and learn to find healthy foods. I have found some recipes on this site, and I'm looking forward to trying them soon.

Have a great day! We can do this together!

  • I just turned 50 and started this thing a couple of months ago at 271 pounds. That is the most I've ever weighed and I can't believe I got here. I've never been skinny and don't want to be, but I want to be "normal" and healthy. I began this "myfitnesspal" experience as a diet and have realized that it is now a life style change. I'm down 14 pounds and very excited. Like you, I'm impatient but I am learning that slow and steady is going to win this race.
  • I'm not over 50 yet, (in my 40's) but did start out at 310 lbs this year. Happy to say I'm down to 282 so far, which is a huge accomplishment for me. I haven't weighed this low in over 10 years. But I am looking to lose another 100 pounds by next year. I can totally relate to you Carla, I've been overweight all my life, as far back as I can remember. And my goal is also not to get just skinny, but to be normal and healthy and not have to shop in the plus size departments anymore.

I eat small meals 5-6 times a day, Usually 200 - 400 calories each. I eat a lot of the same things each day, as it helps me control what I eat. Plus, it's easy for me at work to just bring the same things each day. It's on the weekends where I struggle the most, because I don't have the structure of my work day to help me out.

Something different has clicked for me this year, as I have tried every year before this to lose weight, but never had much success before now. It seemed as though my body wanted to stay at 300 lbs no matter what I ate or how much I exercised. I am excited that the things I am doing this year are finally making a difference. And yes, I do wish the weight would come off more quickly, but at this point, I am elated that it's coming off at all! I just have to keep reminding myself to keep working at it, and it will keep working. Carla is right, slow and steady will prevail!
