This is my first time heading out before dawn to shop the day after thanksgiving. I'm a tad bit terrified! I'm going alone because the people I know who do this yearly don't want a newbie slowing them down!:noway:

Who's going? And can you offer some advice to this first timer?! Do you make a game plan? What is your stategy?

Ugh...Black Friday...I worked retail for 5 years (Target, ****'s Sporting Goods, and Hibbett Sports) and I have NO idea why anyone would want to do this willingly! But if you really must...

Don't expect to find a good parking spot. Just pull into the first one you see. It helps reduce parking lot congestion and waiting time.

You will be waiting in long lines.

Pick out a couple things you REALLY want and head to those areas first.

Be REALLY nice to the employees. Don't complain if something is in stock. The daytime crew has no control over that and they are usually in the dark about the supply as much as you are.

Be CAREFUL. People get trampled, punched, mugged, etc. on Black Friday. It's the antithesis of Thanksgiving Day...all about selfishness and taking without spending. (Can you tell I'm a little jaded?)

Oh, and show up EARLY. Bring layers because you will be waiting outside until the store actually opens.

    Thanks.

I am really second guessing this plan. I had an incedent with a crazy lady at Wal-Mart over a childrens bedroom decoration on Christmas Eve a few years ago. I'm having flashbacks now. Maybe I need to train for the year, and try in 2010......I don't function well in the A.M. as it is.

I've really seen few deals worth the fiasco. Like, Target has a Dyson vacuum for $200 off. Cool, but I don't need a vacuum, you know? I would hate waking up at like 4:30 am and dealing with all the traffic and crowds, but I dislike those at any time. Usually it's a better deal to shop after Christmas sales.
  • The best deal I ended up with was: Target had all the seasons of Friends for $8.99. I needed 9 and 10 to complete our collection. The best deals I ever found were 14.99. That was worth it for me. Otherwise, t wasn't too bad. I didn't go out till 8am anyways. I didn't need any of the stuff they were giving away anyways. I also got an iPod Nano for my daughter with two cases and a wall charger for 160 at Best buy. That was a pretty good deal. The lines were no where near what I expected. Safe to say, I may make this a tradition. But I highly doubt I'd join in the early morning chaos.
