Sorry I can't be of much help. I'm not an IPhone fan. My husband has been trying for years to get me to let him have one and I refuse. There's nothing an IPhone can do that my Android can't. And every single IPhone I've ever seen has a cracked screen. I've had my phone for 2 years, dropped it numerous times, no case, and have yet to break my screen. The Spiderweb App joke is around for a reason. LOL. What I don't understand (for anyone who has an IPhone) is that my insurance will send me a new phone if my screen cracks or whatnot. Why in the world doesn't anyone do the same for their IPhone? I know there is insurance for them and seems mandatory from my recent browsing of the AT&T plans.

    Anyways. I love my Android.

I've had my iPhone 4 since they came out, and I drop it a LOT. Mine isn't cracked or anything. The only case I ever have on it (because I very much prefer a nekkid iPhone) is one of those plastic ones that just snaps on the back- cause I like Disney ones LOL

My hubby has his in a Griffin Survivor Case because he's a mechanic and the case keeps the phone safe from oils, solvents, etc. His buddy at work has android phones (always gets the newest thing) and he's blown through at least 3 phones in the time hubby's had his iPhone. It's all in how you take care of them.

From a personal standpoint- I like iTunes, all my stuff comes from iTunes, so I DO NOT want anything Android...Also, the iTunes app store is a billion times better than the Android store. Battery life on iPhone is better. iMessage is better (group messaging). I also like the size of the iPhone- I can shove it in my pocket.

i've dropped my phone dozens of times and it hasn't shattered yet (iphone). i have a friend who's Droid phone (Samsung - but I don't think the SIII) shattered. So, i think it just depends sometimes.

anyway, to get to the insurance question - my wife and i have our phones on our homeowner's insurance plan rather than getting insurance through my service provider or the Apple Care - it's much cheaper, and easier to submit a claim in the long run.

Finally, to address the OP question - you don't NEED either. Remember, phones are simply tools. Each one has different things that appeal to different people. I would wager that the difference between the 2 are negligible.

If you've been using the Galaxy and you like it then you will definitely like the iPhone. Why? Because Samsung basically ripped 6 of 7 patents Apple had anwyay :)

Galaxy Note! I love it so much. It is my phabulous phablet, yes I hold it up to my ear to talk and i do get funny looks from people.
I didn't do the Google thing on mine, that is optional thankfully. I hate it when things take over my phone, like iPhones and itunes. blech.

Recently went from Droid X to Galaxy. Love it. I read many, many reviews before deciding. Look at more "professional" reviews from tech magazines, blogs, etc. I found a lot that compared iPhone to Galaxy.

I have the S3. The size of the screen is great for using the internet. I love that you can use google maps for free to get directions. The battery life has not been an issue for me. I can get through a whole day no problem. I send quite a few texts and emails during the work day and use a few apps. As long as you remember to close down the apps you aren't using battery life seems fine. Quality of pictures and video is good. I think it's easier to quickly deploy the camera on the iPhone though. I have an expandable memory card for mine, so storage I think is more affordable than the iPhone. I haven't used the MFP app on an iPhone, but it's very easy for the S3. Updates fast, allows you to view your wall, all in all a great app.

Things I don't like about it: hard to text with one hand. I'm a former blackberry user and the touchscreen is hard for me to adjust to. Also my hands are too small to easily reach all the buttons with one hand, I really need to use both. My other major issue is the screen is practically impossible to see in daylight. I bought a screen protector that is supposed to help and tried adjusting brightness, but it's still very hard to see no matter what I do. This is frustrating when I'm trying to use the map when I'm driving, or just trying to send a text outside. Other than that I'm pretty happy with it so far and I've been using if for about a month.

It will be a long time before I touch a Samsung phone anytime. My first several phones were Samsungs and the quality of the phones seemed to degrade over time to the point my current work phone is a Samsung and I actively avoid using it.

My current personal phone is the IPhone 4S. It does everything I need reliably and I vastly prefer the smaller size.

I won't even try to guess what the iphone 5 has even though I've read a ton of reports on it, but last time Apple released a phone those reports were ridiculously innacurate.

If the lay of the land remains the same when my 2 years is up I'll probably be looking between a new iphone and whatever Nokia has out for Windows phone. Nothing I see coming out for Android interests me at all.

My personal choice - Galaxy S3. I'm already deeply invested in the Googlesphere, I use Linux as my OS on my home computer, so trying to set up a Windows or Mac machine to support an iPhone plus the hassles of moving my music into iTunes, etc, is just not worth it. Apple also lacks an option of a screen large enough for me to type on. I've tried. I've failed. I also like to be able to customize more about my phone (keyboard, launcher, etc) than iOS allows. But I have nothing against the iPhone - the build quality of every one of them I've seen has been excellent. I've spent some time in the Apple Application Store and the depth of apps based on my time in each seems about equivalent from a functional perspective (every time I've wanted to accomplish an objective, I've found a way to do it within the apps available for each platform).

But I'll freely admit that my decision is based on conditions that may or may not be true for you. What you want to do is go into a store and handle both phones for a little while in person. Try them out. Type a few emails. Play.

Don't get sucked into fanboi "Android is insecure" or "Apple is running scared" arguments. They're both smartphones backed by a large and healthy infrastructure behind them, in both cases an infrastructure that's not going away any time in the near future. There are a few things you can do on one that you can't do on another, but they are VERY few, and both have a vibrant developer base that will make it possible tomorrow if it ain't possible today.

I've had the iPhone 3gs, and I've had other android devices, I also had the iPhone 4s for 6 months and couldn't wait to get rid of it.
I now have the galaxy s3 and ITS THE BEST PHONE I'VE EVER HAD!
  • Ive had a droid for a couple of years now, and as soon as the iphone 5 comes out, i'll be in line to get one. The big tipping point for me is that I no longer trust the android platform. I've lost track of the number of times my phone as deleted all of my text messages on its own without warning in the last 6 months or so. This is a bug that google has known about for several years now and still have not fixed it.

Because that would require us to switch to AT&T which would cost us an extra $3000 annually.

Wow. I've had Android smart phones now for 5ish years now and never randomly had my texts randomly delete or ever even heard of that problem.

I have the Galaxy SII and LOVE IT! I've compared it and tested it against my brother in law's iPhone 4. My Galaxy was faster and IMO easier to use. I love that I can customize it.

However, he's still sticking to his iPhone--although he was bummed by the speed.

So, it seems to be a matter of personal preference.

With that said, I'll be getting a Galaxy again, when it's time to upgrade.

The title says its comparing OS but its only comparing the visual size of the device. Size is certainly important but bigger isnt better, always. Did I mention Samsung owes Apple 1.05 BILLION $$$$ for stealing their ****?
