So, my son placed second in the science fair at school. One of the rewards was a free meal at a buffet called the Golden Corral. He is 9 and was so excited to go get his free dinner so we went. Needless to say, NEVER again.

This may offend some, but OMG, the food selection, all out of cans, the meat fatty and way to salty and the dessert bar was the busiest part of the whole place. No wonder there are so many people out there with weight issues. It was really interesting to sit back and watch what people loaded up on their plates, what they thought was a good dinner. My favorite was the woman with a little bit of lettuce and ranch dressing for her "salad" that she topped with a piece of chicken fried steak and gravy.

I have never been a fan of buffets but this one really has to win for the worst available. I guess I eat healthier than I thought, because I woke up early this morning with a headache from being dehydrated from the salt content of the processed food and my stomach is NOT happy with me, and I ate turkey breast and salad and some non dairy ice cream. I can't imagine what I would have felt like if I would have eaten some of what I saw on people's plates.

Ok, Im done, back to healthy food.

I know. I do like some of our local pizza buffets, but that's about it - and I load up on salad before I start the good stuff.

I had a trainer tell me once that when I had a bad body image of myself to go to an all you can eat buffet or the food court at the mall and watch people. It's insane!!!

    sorry i offended anyone. :embarassed:
  • we used to call that place "the hefer" for obvious reasons!

I totally agree! My husband and I went to one last summer and vowed never again! We kept wondering why we paid money for food that didn't even taste good.

I live in Las Vegas, the Mecca of buffets. I weigh 143 pounds and absolutely love buffets. I find them amazing and similar to what heaven must be like.

I eat at one buffet once a week and I see people pile so much **** on their plate they don't know what they're eating. Some people pile on their dessert/salad/main course onto one plate and eat while walking.

Of course, you need to regulate what you're eating at a buffet but looking at what some people eat at buffets is such a mood enhancer. I feel better about myself and what I eat when I see others drinking dressing from their spoon, licking their plates, and fighting over a single hamhock.

It makes me feel so skinny!

Here in Texas, CFS counts as three food groups: fried, fat, and meat.

I find buffets repulsive! I guess I prefer to have my food completely cooked, and not sitting out for an hour, and only the cook, the server, and myself handling it.

    YUCK!

Let's be honest some of those people who enhale 3 and 4 piled high plates of food are just HOGS!
They missed the lesson we we told when we were kids, "There are children in other countries who are starving and would give anything for a spoon of rice."

um, keep in mind that very few of us would be here if we didn't overeat from time to time.

i like buffets too but going there some people tend to over indulge because all that food sitting right in front of you and they just go crazy. I wouldn't call them hogs though:ohwell: It's like over indulging

Let's just sum this up.....it is a troff, truly a place to watch people pig out, it is like a modern day side show and yes, it helps others realize their overweight bodies are not as bad as some of the huge people there.

People do pile their plates up with crap, all of it crap. I had a woman actually push me out of the way to get to some dried up, fried piece of meat that I wanted nothing to do with and she did take the last 3-4 pieces that were there.

My kids even noticed that the food was over salted and mostly unhealthy and my son said he would thank his teacher but he never wanted to go back (sigh of relief..)

No, it's not nice to call some of those people "hogs", but for real, I am a whopping 220 lbs and 5'9" tall and I was small compared to 90% of the people there, so yes, they were pigging out and some quite frankly, needed 4-5 less plates of food and a good walk around the block.

    First...congrats to you son!!!

and second...wow....ya I'm not a fan of those places either.....if we go and I think we went once last year, I load up on salad and not all the fattening dressing either or croutons etc....then I look for lean meat...if I can find it LOL....and then I'll maybe get some corn bread or roasted potatos, but I have to say I look at those places like fast food which grosses me out because well....God knows who is cooking the food, and how its being cooked, I remember my friend working at those places when we were kids and omg the stories lol....

but I have to be honest and tell you when I'm hungry any food smells good but MAN if you eat a lot of salad first and take a good look around you will be able to totally redirect yourself.....I just do what most of us do...stay away...sooo not worth it!

I'd rather go to Boston Market or something...even Subway (not the one in fresno Icandoit...no way! :noway: lol)

    HUGS!
Ali ....good learning experience though....see how much we've all learned LOL:flowerforyou:
