Help!!!!!

I am on 1200 cals per day. If I walk for an hour I can gain another 400 cals. Should I eat those extra calories or ignore them if i want to lose weight. I am never sure what to do as if i dont use them i will only have eaten 800 cals and i dont want my body to think i'm starving as this defeats the object. Please help!!

Yes, you need to eat them. Your 1200 calorie goal already has you eating at a deficit so that you can achieve your desired weekly weight loss.

In order to hit your weekly weight loss goal you must eat them back. You are correct as eating 1200 and burning 400 would be like eating 800 and not working out, which is not enough for anyone.
  • MFP is set up for you to hit your net at 1200. Eat them back. If I lived off 1200 gross calories a day I would pass out trying to work out as hard as I do and I would be starving.

On average I eat 1600-2000 calories a day after working out. That is 1200 net on MFP.

You probably should be eating even more than that. Check this out:

Very helpful thread that certainly changed my way of doing things. AND I'm not starving anymore!! :) Good luck, you can do it.
  • I have the same problem I am aloud 1460. Do you have to eat all you work off?? Some days I am satisfied with what I have eatten and its under the total. I always eat the 1460 just not always the "extras".

Yes. you are supposed to eat the calories you burn from exercise. Everyone else who responded to the original post said that.

Listen to your body. If you have calories left and you are hungry then eat them. If you are not hungry then don't or just eat some of them.

I am sorry I didnt see those comments before my reply. I just dont understand why I would eat those cals if I am not hungy. I guess I will figure it out!

Your body may be used to eating less than you actually need. Plenty of people eat extremely low calories without feeling hungry, but that doesn't mean it's healthy. Your body does need a certain amount in order to function properly.
