OK. So, eating the right carbs...fruit, veggies (salad), beans (pintos)...
Do they cause you to have a huge amount of gas? Do you feel bloated and feel like you have to go potty all the time and can't? LOL! I feel like I should be cleaned out, but am not! Does this change after a while?
Today, I've eaten all good carbs...wheat bread (toast) and then 1.25 cups of pintos (over 100 carbs) already oh and some fruit. Is this fine? No wonder people go over on carbs.... Do you all go over on your carbs even when eating correctly?
Michelle

yes, those foods can cause gas, and yes you tend to get used to them (at least I do).0

I totally agree with Taylor; and yes, I go over on my carbs on around half of my week, I'm vegetarian and so tend to eat quite a lot of obvious carbs such as pasta, plus more hidden carbs such as bananas, beans etc. my weight loss is very slow so I am making a big effort to lower my carbs as I do feel that this is what is causing the problem. Good luck with your weight loss journey x0

In my experiance, bread is backed with calories but not very satisfing. I aim to get min 40% of calories from fiberious vegetables. Brocolli is a good example, you can eat bowl fulls and still have only a few calories from it compared to wheat bread.0

Beans, Beans
The magical fruit,
The more you eat,
The more you toot!0 -
I eat lots of those but I haven't noticed an increase in gas. My BMs have become pretty dang regular, and frequent (not TOO frequent)0

For non-gassy beans try soaking over night. Then cook with some bay leaf and fresh thyme in the water. Something about the chemical reaction with the herbs make the beans more digestible.
If you are eating canned beans, drain and rinse before cooking with bay leaf and thyme. Dried are healthier, but I use canned often for convenience reasons.0 -
You gotta be careful with the beans! I'm a vegetarian so I tend to eat a lot of them. You really just can't a lot of them all the time. I tend to make sure I go at least a day between high beany meals, and if I do go back to back, I just make sure I keep it to a small amount.
Also-beano is magic! You can just drop it straight into your food and it really lessens the gas factor.0 -
Add fiber to your diet gradually ... don't try to go from 10 gms to say 30 gms overnight. This will be very uncomfortable.
There are 2 types of fiber - soluble & insoluble. Make sure you are getting both. I usually have zero problems with fiber ... but chicory root (inulin) ... is horrible for me, but fine for other people. Oatmeal (insoluble fiber) is easier to digest than some others... I think. I guess you just have to figure this out as you go.
I don't worry about the quantity of carbs ... for me it's more about the quality of carbs... staying away from processed foods.0 -
LOL Yes I remember when starting I had some...er...gastrointestinal issues too. It will go away as your body adjusts to the new diet (as long as there are no other medical issues like allergies etc...) Keep drinking lots and lots of water to help your body "flush" out the build up. (Oy, there is no other way of putting it!) :blushing:0
