GAHHHHHHHHH, help!

A little background here, before I get into my frustration...

About a month ago, I saw a dietician to help me lose weight, and she put me on a low carb diet. After 2 weeks, I lost 9 lbs, and was thrilled. On August 1st, I lost one of my best friends, he died at age 27 from type 1 diabetes. My family has a bad history of diabetes, so I know I really need to get myself in gear and lose so I don't end up with it, I don't want my friends and family to go through this again (the whole family was close to Bob). BUT... with TOM (TMI, sorry) coming up, I just. can't. stop. eating. It's making me insane, I eat even when I'm not hungry. It's this awful compulsion... So, what would you do to try to keep from gorging on crap? I can't let this get out of control!!

Yeesh, that's hard. I guess I'd first try to slow myself down with some hot tea - though with it being 90+ degrees outside, I might need to drink it while sitting in front of a fan. :\ You're already drinking lots of water, right? Add ice to nibble on...other no-cal (or low-cal) things that can keep your mouth thinking you're eating treats, you know?
  • Maybe an eating disorder therapist would be a good supplement to the dietitian? Sounds like you have the general knowledge, but have emotional issues preventing you from taking the healthy steps.

I occasionally have the same problem where I just can't stop eating even if I'm not hungry at all. I usually fill up a 32oz glass bottle I have (used to have juice in it) with like 2 tbs Real Lemon Juice and water and ice cubes and just try to sort of chug that for awhile and maybe distract myself with a TV show or something for a bit. Hope this helps!

Is there a way for you to just leave the house and go walk around the mall or Wal-Mart or just at a park, to distract yourself?

@ TOM your body will try to compensate by increasing your appetite to adjust for blood loss...... Drink more and eat iron rich vegetables and proteins. The proteins especially should help with the cravings and not cause too much problem on total calories. Best of luck. I well remember the days of feeling like I could eat the entire backend of a horse and all the scraps at the Hershey's plant and still be hungry.
