Where did my motivation go? I want it back!

Hi there,

I'm so fustrated with myself! About two-three years ago, I lost 68 lbs while in college. Over time, I've gained half of it back! To make things worse, I'm a fitness instructor. So as I'm getting fat, I have to work out in front of dozens of people at least twice a week, when all I want to do is hide. You think that would motivate me to get into gear! So I can do the workouts well and not struggle AND be a role model.

I don't know how to get motivated for longer than 3 days! That's as long as I can go before I cave in and indulge in all the foods that are too much calories! I work out ALL the time, five days a week, but that leaves me hungry.

Any motivation inspiration stories out there? Perhaps one of your strategies will work for me! :)

sounds to me that ur biggest problem is food not working out. Well if I were you, I would have a shake or protein bar after each workout that way u are not starving when u get home and you don't over eat. also would plan healthy meals for everyday and perhaps ONE reward on the weekend as a prize that you have been good all week. That definately worked for me since I love junk food ice creams, etc. I am good all week and just reward myself with something small. DON'T let that turn into a whole cheat day or consecutive cheat weekend. It's all in ur hands really, nothing anyone can say or do will help if you don't help yourself.

I'm not being harsh, but I used to get help from my mom, my bf, etc and I didn't wanna take it so it didn't help. I told them to back off when I was ready and now I'm doing it on my own!

Good luck.! Feel free to view my food diary for ideas. (Ummm I admit my weekends have not been great). But my Mon-Fri are usually awesome!

Oh wow, your post was right on. I've lost my motivation and also gained back all my weight and then some. Arrrghh! I've had some bumps during this time but still it's no excuse to have let myself go the way I did. But today is a new day and I'm getting back on track. I just wanted to say we can do this, because what we will see at the end of it is worth it. ((hugs))

IMHO, you need to figure out WHY you can't sustain the healthy lifestyle. It can't all just be physical wanting of the food. There's gotta be something mental in there. break through, figure out what it is that you are thinking about when you are eating. Maybe carry a food journal with you, when ever you feel the need to eat something terrible, write what you are thinking in it, it doesn't matter if you're thinking about food, or the Empire State building, it's all relevant, just jot down what you're thinking, then later you can go back and examine your thoughts, look for patterns, feelings, emotions...etc.

    good luck.

Great advice Banks! I'm going to follow that one.....because I know that I'm overweight for two reasons, one, I've just had child number 5, and also because somehow it works for me. I hope to figure it out...because I'm so tired of carrying around these extra 50lbs.

  • Thanks everyone! Great advice as squoozyq said. No excuses! Time to step it up! One decision at a time, and one meal at a time. I like the idea of tracking my feelings/thoughts...that could def be a trigger for me. I think I'm going thru a quarter-life crisis (yes, that's REAL :))...so depressions comes in and out of my life, especially lately.

    thanks again everyone!

Eat a clean diet. No flour or unnatural sugars, & mostly food God gave us. You can eat so much.

LOVE yourself. Don't beat yourself up! Come up with just ONE positive thing you can do, and commit to it for a week, like maybe drinking plenty of water every day. And get off your own back about everything else. After a week, when you see that you stuck to that one little thing for a whole week, you can add something.

The worst way to try to motivate yourself is to keep kicking yourself in the butt. I know this from personal experience - you should see my bruises back there!

Love yourself back into a place of motivation.

  • You hit the nail on the head....I need to love myself and I don't think I do right now. Wow, who knew losing weight can make you learn so much more about yourself!

oh yes! u learn a lot about urself! you learn how strong you can be, how much self control you have, how most of the time you need to put ur mind over matter - really think about what u are about to do to ur body each time u want to eat something bad.

most of the time you will be amazed by how strong and wonderful u really are :):flowerforyou:
