The flu - tips and tricks for recovery?

Hi, I've been really sick with the flu since Saturday - it's Tuesday night now.

My nephew was born yesterday and of course I can't go and see him until I am well.

I'll do anything to speed up my recovery if there is any way to do it.

Anyone had success with anything?

Nope. You just need to let your body fight it off by getting plenty of rest and fluids.

lemon and honey drink: juice of half a lemon, 3 or 4 cloves manuka honey to sweeten.
and a slice of fresh ginger

    Sudafed decongestant to ease symptoms

Beef broth with a clove or 2 of garlic

Flu superfoods: ginger, garlic, echinacia, chillis, citrus fruits, cloves, manuka honey

I was thinking of having a sauna - but I'm worried about making other people sick.

One website recommends getting back to exercise at half your normal amount... so I might take the poor dog for a walk tonight, he has missed out for too long.

Steamroom is good as well, fresh air helps but try to stay dry and dont overdo it, keep your fluids up, plenty of water and green tea and hot lemon drinks

Instead of a steam room, maybe a long, hot bath or shower? Walking the dog would be good for making sure you get some exercise in there without going overboard. Oh, and congratulations on the nephew!

Lots of water a d lots of rest. Get well soon! :flowerforyou:
  • Making sure you are fueling your body properly even though you might not feel like it so it's working properly to recover.
Keep warm but don't over heat. Trying to stay at the same temp as much as possible will help your body stay at the right temp to fight the bugs without too much strain.
Water, you need to increase by about 25% but not in big amounts at once. Try half a glass every half hour of so. Your body needs fluids for sweating and to make all that tasty mucus to trap the goobies and expell them.
Cold and flu tabs will help symptoms and ones with psuedoephedrine will help you maintain core temp as above.
Anything that is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory will help, as mentioned ginger honey and lemon. Anti-inflammatories stop your sinuses and throat being so swollen so the blood can devote to getting you better rather than going to swollen places. Unswollen places also function better.
Don't blow your nose too much. If nothing is coming leave it alone. You risk too much swelling of the nasal passages which can result in nose bleeds, germs getting stuck in the sinus and causing infection or in worst cause, permanent damage.
In saying that do not use decongestants in the form of nasal sprays. The compound the problem. Use saline spray if you must.

I get sick alot with headcolds and chronic sinusitis.
