P90X vs Insanity

Hello all
I have gotten such excellent advice from this board. I never would have heard of Jillian Michaels and the 30 day shred, ripped in 30 etc if not for this board. So my husband and I have turned into home exercise fans. We get up in the morning and knock it out together almost every day. He's lost 40 lbs, I lost 30...I have 10 to go and he is done with weight loss. All about maintenancenow and also about finding new things to work for fitness-wise.
We're interested in trying either Insanity or P90X now. Is there any die by side comparison out there? Have any of you gurus done both?
Which takes more time on a day to day basis? We can really only invest in an under 45 minute routine during the week....does that make Insanity better for us?
We're in great shape now but we are both over 40 -- does one work out engage in more complicated (read risky) routines than another?
The chin up bar is a turn off for me -- is that even a big deal?
They both look like great programs but they are an investment both time and money-wise so I don't want to be disappointed...
Thoughts?

Hey,
I personally preferred P90X because it was a better overall workout in terms of building muscle and really focusing on your movements. I found that Insanity was more cardio based and I didn't feel there was enough structure or ability to stop when you have lost your form (which can lead to injury).
They are both lengthy routines, but you can trim some time off P90X by doing your abs in the evening and cutting out the additional "push" portion at the end if you don't have the time. Obviously you will not get the same results but it will still work for you.
In terms of the bar, I used resistance bands strung to the ceiling to work my bacl - they do a lot with the bar during the back routines but they make sure to show you how to push it with resistance bands which is extremely helpful. I woud say you should try using the bar at least once - it is a great accomplishment and you really do work your back and shoulders WAY more than with the resistance bands.
You can get either pretty cheap off kijiji or eBay so it shouldn't have to be a significant investment - just time - and by the sounds of it that is not a problem.
Kick it up and let us know how you do0
