Universal Gym...any suggestions please??

I've been doing mainly cardio for months now and of course I love it but I want to back down a bit on cardio and incorporate more strength training. I work out at home so I think a home/universal gym would be best for me. But I need suggestions!! I want something with many stations/ exercise options. Cost isn't much of a factor as I've been saving and will continue to save for a bit longer before I look to purchase. My only real limitation is height...nothing over 7 feet tall to fit the space it will call its home. Little help?????

You don't need that, just a bench and a set of powerblock dumbbells.0

We have no idea what she "needs" I sent her to one of the best places to get at home gym equipment, why don't you try helping out too.0 -
I've heard of powerblocks but I wasn't sure about them...they would certainly take less space. I like the idea of the home gym...part of my problem is mental block when it comes to which exercises to perform...feels like a universal set up clears some of that up for me.0

For a proper basic strength routine you would need to perform some sort of:
Squat
Bench
Deadlift
Overhead Press
Row
Pull up
Dip0 -
Look up be your own gym.....could be helpful. I do deadlifts, squats, bowler lunges.....see if you can get Chalene Extreme with free weights from 10-30....bet that would be all you may need.0

Power Rack
Olympic Barbell
Weight Plates
Bumper Plates
Powerblock dumbbells are very nice to have too0 -
Don't forget your Shape magazine! I know Fitness puts a great workout (or two or three) in every issue of at home, minimal equipment strength/ cardio plans. Try them out!0

If cost is not a factor, and height restriction is 7ft, then the only piece of equipment you will ever need is a dual pulley cable machine with a good selection of grips, bars, and add a trx suspension trainer.
Cable training is the best, it is the future now.0 -

True. Now what about the other planes of movement to strengthen and condition and become a machine and not a movement restricted lift robot.0 -

If I were going to create my own gym for home use, I'd get a lot of free weights; dumbells, barbells and the like. A basic rack wouldn't be that tall and you'd have a lot more flexibility with the exercises you can do than you would with something like a bowflex. THAT said, the book New Rules of Lifting for Women is a really nice guide and has quite a few exercises that you can do with the above equipment.0
