Hi everyone, my name is Bonnie and I need help with a work out and diet plan. I think I have to much information overload. You have some saying "eat this" while others say "nope that's not good for you. eat this instead." Some saying you should do this exercise and some saying no it's bad for you. I have a treadmill, wii plus, 30 day shred, the firm vidieos but I'm still not losing any weight because I don't know which ones to do. Would really love some ideas from people who have lost weight. What did you do for exercise? What kind of food did you eat? Can anyone help me come up with a plan that will work for me?

Hi Bonnie. My name is Julia.I joined Nutrisystem about six weeks ago. It is working for me.(i realize that not everyone can afford this)but it teaches us to eat six times a day. B-fast then protein mid morning/lunch then a low carb snack mid afternoon /dinner and then a dessert.Of course you purchase their food and suppliment your own fruits and veggies. The main thing is portion control and that is very important.
I also go to the gym five days a week for at least an hour.( i have silver sneakers threw my insurance company so it does not cost me anythig to go.)I am almost 67 years old. It sounds to me that you have some good items to work out with. Everyone is different in their weight loss. It is good to change up your workout. When your body gets used to doing one and you are not working hard, change it to something else. It is also good to have a variety of exercises to do so you don't get bored doing the same thing.Just get out and walk,(if you live where it is not too hot right now) I live in AZ and it is way too hot outside right now to walk(for me anyway.)
I hope that i have helped you at least a little. This says that i have lost 1 pound but i have actually lost over seven.Don't know how to change it from the beginning...0 -
I have lost 9lb in 11 weeks by eating what I like, but sticking to mfp. calorie intake. I use half my exercise cals and am having a great time eating what I like (in moderation) whilst losing weight. You know yourself better than anyone, do what works for you!0

The general logic of losing weight is "Eat less, move more", but I can understand how daunting it might be when you are starting out.
My advice to you (I'm not a professional, I just lost 40+ pounds recently) is to log what you'd normally eat in a day before "trying to lose weight". Once it's down on paper, you'll know what steps to take. I truly believe "diet" or "what you eat" is the biggest component of losing weight (80%), the next is working out (20%). I lost 30 of my pounds with just diet changes alone. I didn't follow any "plan" I analyzed what I could cut out or limit from my diet and cut things out slowly. My 40+ pound weight loss happened SLOWLY (in about a year and 1/2). First I cut out soda. Next I greatly limited fried food. Next I made a decision to make 95% of the food I was eating and greatly limit processed stuff. I didn't join MFP until I had 10 pounds to go. I also didn't start working out until I had 5 pounds to go. And I walked. I walked up to 4 miles a day, 3 days a week at a pretty fast clip (4.0mph). I didn't run, I didn't kill myself in the gym. I walked. I ate the calories MFP advised me to, I hate 1/2 of my workout calories. I lost the last 10 pounds in 2 months and have been on maintenance since April.
Eat 'clean'. Fresh fruits/veggies, lean meats, brown carbs (rice, quinoa, cous cous, sweet potatoes, etc). Grill and roast EVERYTHING. Limit eating out and if you do order things like salads (bring your own dressing), chicken and veggies, etc. Don't be afraid to ask for something that isn't on the menu or ask them to cook it a certain way. You are paying them, they can bend with you. Portion control is HUGE. Make sure to weight and measure your foods at first so you know what you are eating. A bowl of cereal isn't what fits in a bowl...Read the nutritional facts before buying the item. Shop the perimeter of the store and limit buying things in the aisles. You don't need a plan. You just need to find your grove. That takes time. Rome wasn't built in a day, you didn't gain your weight overnight and you won't lose it that quickly either.
I think the biggest thing that helped me is I planned what I would eat a day ahead so I had limited temptations and no decisions. I ate what was on my log EVERYDAY. It takes time to learn what you "should" do. I think the biggest mistake people make is to go into the "new lifestyle" balls to the wall. One day eating WHATEVER and HOW MUCH EVER they want and being a couch potato, the next 1200 calories a day and working out like a crazy person. Make small changes over a long period of time and you will achieve your goals.
Good luck to you!0 -
I had a lot of success on weight watchers and a walking/running plan. Since I got lazy and fell of the weight watchers wagon, I have to lose the weight again, but here is what I firmly believe works.
Figure out how many calories you should be eating daily to lose about a pound a week. MFP has me at 1200 calories. Begin by logging every thing in daily that you eat. And I mean every bite. Don't worry too much about going over your calorie goal at first. Figure out what works best for you eating the foods YOU love. Pretty soon you will be able to plan out healthy days by fitting your foods into a calorie plan. You quickly learn that in order to stay fuller longer you have to make every calorie count. That will get you substituting some unhealthy things you eat with healthier alternatives. I believe this is what weight watchers did for me. Yeah I could eat the chips for x amount of points, but if I ate a healthy snack for the same amount of points, I stayed fuller longer. The same concept applies to calorie goals.
I walked at least 45 minutes 4-5x a week and through in some dvd workouts. I have also done Jillain Michaels' 30 day shred in the past with success.
If I stick to these ideas, I lose weight consistently. Just start slow and don't overwhelm yourself. This is a lifetime commitment and you'll make mistakes along the way. Good luck!0 -

I eat the same foods as before but I stick to my calorie allowance, I don't deprive myself off anything, if I want pizza or chocolate then I eat it. I have been on a 'diet' for the last 10 years and have given up after a week due to feeling deprived of treats. This to me is a lifestyle change and I have overhauled my outlook. I exercise daily on the elliptical trainer for normally 30 mins and generally try to walk more instead of using the car. I also have work out DVD's like 30DS and some others. I see what mood I am and then fit the exercise round. Any exercise is better than none. Depending how hungry I am depends on whether i eat the calories back, I normally try not to if I am not hungry. I still have a treat night at the weekend with a takeaway. I started on here properly 6 weeks ago and committed to myself to lose weight, I have lost 9lb in 6 weeks and have lost inches from hips, thighs and waist. I don't want to lose weight fast because I want it to stay off so I am aiming for 1lb a week.
Good luck :-) Feel free to add me, I am on daily.0 -
Hello Bonnie!
It sounds like you have all of the information needed to make a good dent in your weight loss. You just need the encouragement and the confidence to know that you can do this. I read as much as I can constantly then I try what works for me. I have started tons of diets and this time I am determined and I ill do this! You CAN do it too! I can tell you what has worked for me. I started modifying my food and incorporating two to three days of cardio into my life. Since starting this on 8/8/2012 I have lost 17 pounds. I'm doing it the healthy way and I am getting active. I have a sitting job for 18 years now and it was always so easy to go grab two candy bars, chips and pop. I was drinking like two to three pops a day somedays. I don't hardly eat sugar and I don't drink pop. I might have one eventually but for now I am trying to stay focused on my goals. I weighed 262 on 8/8 and am down to 245 as of this morning. Today: I have eaten one packet of plain oatmeal and one greek yogurt for breakfast and a bunch of water. For lunch I just had cottage cheese, two tomatoes from my garden and some tuna salad with low fat mayo and hardboiled egg in it- more water and some organic tea. I like tea so I try to drink at least three cups a day. I'm no pro by any means, but I can tell you this is what is working for me. For dinner, I will have a grilled chicken breast, some zucchini-onion and mushrooms and maybe a little more cottage cheese. You can mix it up and do salads, fish, etc...Just try to eat a lot of veggies and fruits. That's the main thing is that I have cut my calories, but I'm not starving by any means. I hope this helps! Set a date for yourself and do everything you can to hit that goal. You CAN do this!0
