Well I think I finally have my food where I am happy with it. I have cut back on my cardio and am doing more weight work to try and build muscle mass as I hit a plateau (which is not as frustrating as trying to spell it! )

From many posts here I see I am just not getting enough protein. I am trying to cut back on meat (not give up all together though), but my protein is consistently low. I was considering protein powders but just had a look online and there are 10000's of them - all claiming that they are the best on the market!

Is there one that you would recommend? I am 5.5, 36 years old and female.

Also, any suggestions as nice low calorie ways to include it in my diet would be welcomed. My diary is open if that helps.

Thank you!

1st, why are you cutting back on meat.

Costco sells a good protein powder, if you don't care about taste since it only comes in vanilla and chocolate. If you do care about taste try muscle milk, comes in like 20 different flavors. I liked Cookies and Cream and Peanut butter chocolate.

Cutting back for 3 big reasons.

    1) My dad got colon cancer last year and the specialist told him that too much red meat was a probable factor. The fact that he and my grand dad had it, gives me a pre-disposition.
    2) I am trying to bring my cholesterol down
    3) For ethical reasons I only eat locally produced organic meat - and it is freaking expensive!

Ill look into those - I am hoping to be able to mix it into recipes so I won't have to drink it like a shake. Is that possible?

I am only guessing here but I think fish and crustacean are not red meat. Give the nutritional info on Shrimp or Mahi Mahi a look you may be surprised how low cal and high protein they are.

I've heard of people baking with it as flour but that is a region I dare not go. What is wrong with drinking it?

I had a bad experience with a milkshake once!

Thanks for the mahi mahi suggestions. It is high is cholesterol, but you are right, I can work that into my daily plan easily and it is nice and low in calories which is a big plus.

No probelm, just yesterday I had shrimp and I was entering it in, every time I marvel at how much protein I get for only 300 calories.
