Hi guys, I've been allocated 1370 cals per day...
What I want to know is if I eat up tp 1370 cals per day, will I lose weight without exercise?
I'm not too sure what this "deficit" thing means??
I have been exercising regularly a combo of cardio and a couple of weights sessions weekly.
I am eating 1370 or less cals per day. Regardless of if I earn 300 cals from working out.
Am I doing the right thing??

Yes, theoretically you will lose weight. MFP sets you up with a "deficit" in calories. This means that the goal they give you is a max of 500 calories lower than you would need to sustain your current weight (or around there). If you exercise too it means that you're burning off calories in addition to your goal "deficit".0

Hey!
Yes, that figure '1370' was given to you after you input your height, weight etc. If you go back the goals page you will see a higher number where it has your daily calorie requirements without a deficit. Then you would have put how many lbs you were aiming to lose per week and the 1370 would be your goal.
You always want to try and aim for this number. Assuming you put your activity at sedentary then if for example, you work out and burn 500 calories, then you would have a daily goal of 1870 calories. If you did not eat these you would be netting 870 calories which would not result in sustainable weight loss. If however, you worked out your calories per day based on an active lifestyle, then your exercise would already be counted.
I always work mine out at sedentary and log my exercise. I never ate back my exercise calories until I realized I was netting only 600-700 calories a day which is insane. I started eating up to my suggested net (1200) and bamn! I started losing again.
I hope this helps0 -

Awesome - thank you, especially gogonunu, that is great info. I finally get it I will have a look at my main MFP page also to learn about that.
I put my "activity" level as "lightly active" I think it was - the one up from sedentary... I hope that was the right thing to go - as I was originally quite active - ie yard work horses, walking dogs, bit of walking/standing at work etc...
Cheers!0
