Help me decorate my house!
Well, a room in my house. :-)
I live in a three-bedroom townhouse. The third bedroom is downstairs in the back and opens up to a back porch, so I have always just counted that as an extra living space. There's a futon in there so it can be a guest room when needed. The closet is our storage area and then there's a desk and computer, so it's an office/guest room/reading space/living area.
The other two bedrooms are, of course, one shared by my boyfriend and me and the other one is currently my daughter's bedroom.
Well, she started college on Monday and is moving in with friends. She's coming Saturday for all her furniture, so it will be a completely empty room.
I know I'm going to use one of the closets in there for my shoes and take some of the stuff from downstairs and move it upstairs so it's easier to get to things in storage (especially holiday decorations). But the room itself is where I'm at a loss. So many possibilities! I know I want to keep it generally open so I can do yoga in there, but beyond that ....
I'm thinking maybe putting a desk and some chairs in there? The boyfriend mostly took over the downstairs bedroom, even though it was supposed to be for me. His desktop is on my desk in there, so no space for my laptop and it just doesn't feel the way I wanted it to. So now I have another space ...
(Sorry this is so long!)
So, here's the deal: You're a writer working on a novel, love to read and want a private space to exercise. What would you do with the room?
P.S. I have three air mattresses, so if I ever need to put a guest in there to sleep, I can blow one up and all set, so no need for a permanent bed.

It's kind of hard to offer input. You really haven't given enough information. Are you on Pinterest? That might help.0

Yeah.
I guess I'm just asking what other people would do if they had a whole extra room to work with and it was a blank slate. Pinterest is a good idea, too.0 -

I'm at work, so that isn't an option at the moment. It's just a bedroom, all white walls and beige carpet. There are two windows against one wall, a small closet next to the door and another closet in a corner. Otherwise, wide open and quite large.0 -
I have an open floor plan and a breakfast nook. I turned my dining room into an office/home gym. I mean, it kind of sounds like you already know what you want to do with the room. You just haven't hashed out the details.0

Get a decorating magazine to get ideas, pick a picture that you love and copy it. It doesn't have to be exactly but has the same feel and colors.0

A few ideas...
I've always imagined a big window seat with lots of pillows for my dream reading area. If the sill isn't big enough, maybe set up a bench in front of a window level with the sill to extend it out? (hope that made sense).
If not a window seat, then the biggest, comfiest chair that you can sink into and throw your feet over the arms.
I would need a desk to write...I'm not one of those who can write anywhere. It's probably the only area of my life that requires structure.
And a big wall mirror. Because I like to see how bad-*kitten* I look when I work out. Unless I'm running...no one wants to see that....eesh!0 -

This actually just sparked an idea. I'd love a ballet barre. I've seen them for not too much money in dance stores.0 -

Pinterest is an excellent idea. You can follow quite a few decorator sites. I use it to store all of my dream home and current home ideas.
I would definitely say to create multi-functional pieces as far as a desk and reading area. I turned two small bookcases into a desk by placing a piece of white mdf on top and added trim pieces around the edges to hold it in place. It is great and gives me loads of storage and work space for my drafting board and desktop computer.
If you would like you can follow my boards on pinterest. mmbrantley
I follow quite a bit of different designers and DIY'ers.0 -

Found and following. I'll look through your stuff later.
I've seen the board over bookshelves idea and I really like that. I just need space for a netbook, so something small and narrow.
I'm thinking a fluffy, comfy chair in a corner, a desk up against the windows, a ballet barre and if I can swing it, a mirror. I'm thinking I might paint, too. Maybe slate blue and a throw rug ...0
