Nothing like new running shoes!!

I finally broke down (before my legs broke down) and used a $25 coupon from Eastbay.com to get some new running shoes--early christmas present. I have been running in ASICS GT series shoes the last couple of years--this time I got the GT-2140. I like the feel a little better than New Balance and this style is one of the few that comes in a 2E width (and eastbay is one of the few places I could find to carry that size).
It's always a wonderful difference. I was starting to feel the effects of the other ones for 2-3 days after a long run. With the new shoes (and a last relatively nice day in the Chicago area), I decided to venture outdoors again. I had not run outside since 7/31/09 when I fell and injured my hip. I actually stopped running for 10 weeks because of the injury but in mid-Oct rest didn't seem to make it any better, so I just started running again, 2-3 times a week on my treadmill. I did find it interesting that, even though I had not run for so long, after a couple of runs I got my endurance back and I was running faster than before the layoff.
That was confirmed today--I ran the same 4 mile course I did on 7/31 (when i was in "peak" form at that point), and finished in 32:52, which was about 2:20 faster. It's interesting because I am not that much lighter than I was on 7/31--maybe 5-6 pounds.
Yay for cross training--and new shoes :drinker:
PS: just to clarify--the shoes didn't cost $25--it was a $25 off coupon which made them finally more affordable. ASICS GT-2140s are hard to find at a discount.

I love when I get new shoes too! I swear by Asics. Your muscles have memory and it doesn't take long to get back what you lost. I had to take a year off and I am recovering a little slower than you did, but, it's coming back for me too!0
