BMR and daily calorie allowance?

MFP says my BMR is 1,399

My calorie allowance (based on 1lb a week loss) is 1,390

Surely a 9 cal deficit isn't enough?

your BMR is used to estimate your TDEE. Then the deficit (500 calories in your case) is subtracted from the TDEE.

YOu have a 500 calorie deficit if you selected 1lb/wk

    Total Daily Energy Expenditure.

You (personally) burn approximately 500 calories a day just by walking around to the bathroom, at work, etc.

    TDEE?

Total Daily Energy expenditure. TDEE is usually BMR times a multiplier that accounts for eating, moving, etc. BMR is what you would need to eat to maintain your weight if you were in a coma (life sustaining functions) once you wake up you burn more than BMR.

If you go to the goals tab and look at the top right, calories burned from normal daily activity, that is your maintenance calories (TDEE excluding exercise)

    total daily energy expenditure

BMR is basicaly how many calories your body needs to function, but not move. Like if you were in a coma.
TDEE is how much your body needs on a typical day
