I need someone who wears a heart monitor/cal counting watch to tell me how many cals are burnt during a one hour class of intense cycling/spinning. I heard from 400-800 that is pretty vague.

For a one hour class I burn around 560 - that's with wearing a HRM.

I weigh 138, spin for 45-60 mins and burn about 450-500 per class. But the days when my heart rate is lower I'm looking at 400. I wish I could burn 800!

Depends on the class. I had a great class on friday, 771 cal burn. I'm male, 35, weigh 178 and in great shape.

Well this spin instructor really likes her hills!! I swear I think she tries to kill me lol. I am 120 and a woman so I dont think it would be the same cal burning for me. Thanx tho

I would highly suggest investing in a HRM of your own.

I weigh 160, am a female in good physical shape, and routinely burn 800 calories in a one hour class according to my monitor.

However, I push myself very hard and keep my heart rate in the 80-85% range. I would hazard to guess that many of the gym groupies who are there to just "enjoy the ride" rarely break 500 calories.

I do have one but I couldnt figure out how to use it and now it is broke. I always do my cardio 70-85% Whats the point if your not going to work... I look like a wet cat after my spin classes lol
  • I wear a body bugg which tells me how much i burn and a heart rate monitor. I weigh 145 and i burn 625 in spin class. A real Butt kicker!

It's surprising, the number of people that walk out of spinning class looking the same way they did when they walked in!

Personally, I looked like a drowned cat, too. Can't imagine leaving the gym without showering afterwards!

Lately I've been avoiding class and spinning on my own--I find my own music to be a bit more inspiring than the same old tired stuff our instructor plays. Yesterday I rode for about 65 minutes--967 calories! I knew it was a butt kicker because I felt slightly migraine-ish all evening--of course it was my own fault!

I think I am getting slightly warped though, because it gives me a bit of a 'high' when I go over the calorie burn from the previous time--sometimes I think that if I just doing spinning 5 days a week I could get to my goal weight a lot faster (but in my heart I know it's not healthy).
