New to MFP and to dieting really

I joined MFP a couple of days ago as I've finally decided to take the plunge and make a concerted effort to lose some weight. Today is my first day of the diet really and I have to say I'm starving but I'm sure I'll get into a routine soon enough. Going swimming tonight as well so hopefully will be able to kick start everything and stick to it until I achieve my goal (may be a while!).

I think this site looks great and the forums are a big bonus so I look forward to making some new friends and encouraging them and being encouraged by them.

I'm 29, married and aiming to lose around 9 stone in total (no pressure then!) though for now I'd be happy to just start shifting some of the weight. The only way is down!

just a guess but if you're starving you're probably trying to eat too few calories - I know sounds bizarre that you have to eat more - check out this link - it's an awesome way of figuring out how many calories you NEED to be eating to both maintain your body (ie keep the parts actually working) and lose weight.

You can reach your goal - we're all in this together

Feel free to add me if you like
  • Welcome. You're gonna feel a whole lot better. Just stick with it, and don't worry if you ever slip - just start right back up again. One of my friends says there are no bad days on here. Good days are those where you know what you need to do and try to do it. Great days are those where you're actually able to do it. We're all here for you.
  • Thanks!

I have added you now :)

Still getting the hang of counting calories etc. I'm not too hungry now as have managed to fill up on water but I think I need to adjust things as don't want every day to be spent being hungry! Will check out the link you sent - thank you!

great way to look at it. Heaven knows we've all seen/heard enough negative so it's nice to see a positive for a change!
  • I just started also. I know the "starving" feeling. I think it's also a mental thing for me. I went out yesterday to buy some filling snacks that are low calorie. I guess one thing this does is makes us more conscious of what we are eating. I hope you find this works for you. My sister has lost 40 lbs in 6 months so if she can do it, so can we. Best wishes.
  • Thanks everyone - it's great to see such a lovely community :)
