Hi! I need help making my house pretty :( I hope you're bored as work like I am so you can help!

We just moved into a house that has a LOT of tongue & groove pine siding... it's acceptable in some rooms where it's only one wall, but in others it's walls AND ceilings and I feel like I'm living in a box.

I need help deciding how to paint/what to paint- my boyfriend is saddened by the idea of painting the wood, but I can't handle SO MUCH of it.

Living Room and Dining area (no formal dining)
-pine ceilings
-pine trim
-half-wall (don't know the fancy term.. wainscoting??) in pine on 2 walls
-couches are a dark brown with some green accent pillows.
-trim around the windows is also a dark brown, since those are from the original house/design.
-carpet is brownish-gray, lighter than the couches..
-not a lot of natural light... majority of the windows are south-facing.

Kitchen:
-pine ceiling
-pine trim
-pine paneling on 2 walls behind the cabinets
-pine (I guess) cabinets, nearly the same shade as the siding
-other 2 walls WERE wood paneling but the previous owner painted them a brownish shade that again matches the wood paneling, so it's all very one note and blah
-counters and floors are both a brownishgrayishsomething
-appliances are white

Thanks for any and all suggestions... I'm super frustrated with these two rooms!!!!

Could you post (or email me) pictures, so I can get a better visual? Is the wood smooth or rough? What colors do you have in the rooms? I love crafty projects!

DO NOT PAINT THE WOOD! NO NO NO NO NO!

You will regret it and it will look HORRIBLE! Seriously. We have wood through out our entire house. Wood floors, wood beams, wood chair rail and paneling on half the wall in the dining room, wood panels on the wall in about 3/4 of the great room, wooden doors. . .you get my point.

Is there any way that you can remove the brownish paint on the wood to reveal what is beneath and just put a clear coat of thompson's seal on it?
