How accurate has that tip been for you?

Just wondering, the numbers sound great but in reality how are you guys meeting that number?

Good question, because I like what MFP tells me but I'll be amazed if it happens!

It says if every day was like today, but I look at your diary and every day is different. Doesn't apply to you then.

Even with my psychic abilities, I can't see into the future, so how can MFP? ;) x

Well every time its always min. 8 pounds less than what i am today, my point of the thread was did it move, a friend mentioned on hers that she had yet to see the number, I get if it said I would be heavy or close to my current weight, but its alway lower sometimes as much as 10 pounds, so what is your point, how does it not apply, Do you have to eat the same exact meals each day, thats not realistic.

I believe "if every day was like today" means, if you ate the same calories. On days I eat under my goal I get a low number, and on days I eat right at goal, I get a more realistic number. On days I eat way under my goal I get a note "you are going to starve, in five weeks you will be dead!" ... not really, but whatever. So having every day going 10 cal. under goal, apparently the MFP calculator thinks I'd really be losing!

    I've never gotten there though.

Thanks, thats what i was wondering, for people who are consistent had it ever been correct, just a question, I understand weight goal is based on so many factors, hormones, fat, muscle gain/loss ratio, but they are the "specialist" and added the message and so wondered who has actually met their appointed milestone, 5 weeks. Thank you for your answer. And unless your diet is very regulated and boring, then you will eat the same nutrients and calorie intake each and every day for five weeks, Im just asking how realistic when staying in their parameters as much as possible, does the 5 week message accurate.

I do too, LOL, but for those who consistently lose like 1, 2 pounds consistency they should be reaching that number? I dont know, but im not basing my hope on it NO!

I stopped closing my day's Food Diary a long time ago because well, I've been doing this for five years.

I don't think I could be consistent for five weeks. . .I have a tough time staying consistent for a week. So I would be a terrible control subject. Too much attention to detail makes me a very unhappy and stressed person.

    Thank you x

In seriousness though, I don't even own any scales any more because the fluctuating numbers stress me out too much.

I have a pair of jeans that I want to fit into again, I know their size, and when I'm back in them I'll look to maintain my size, not my weight.

You know... I have been at this much longer than 5 weeks now, but I have never thought about recording the date and the prediction and seeing if it actually turned out that way. Maybe I will just to see!

More than not though, I like seeing that little 5-week prediction when I complete my day... because (accurate or not) it's a number I wanna get to at some point, and it's just a nice little reminder that I did a good job today and I'm headed in the right direction. It's just one of many things that helps keep me motivated.

I get that, thats been my thinking also, the point i guess is that eating more correctly you will eventually be lighter, which is the goal!

I look at it as a carrot leading a horse, it's just a bit of encouragement to get you to the next day... I've never hit it, but when I see a number that I like, i get all excited. So, encouragement-wise, it works. :)

I should do that and see what happens. I too like the little reminder of where I will be soon enough if I keep going!

It is pretty hard to sustain both well under calorie days and big weight loss. One thing I doubt that is considered in MFP's little note is that people's BMR slows as they lose weight, so calories would have to be reduced even further to acheive the number they post.

That said, I think it is a great incentive to see where I could be if I stayed far below my caloric goal on every day.

Not accurate at all. Unless you eat exactly the same thing and do exactly the same things all day, it is pretty well meaningless. Also, it is just based on what it estimates your BMR and TDEE to be, which it seems to underestimate mine. It tells me that I will be gaining weight while in reality, I am still losing.

I just completed my 5th week on MFP recently and I was 2 lbs off the projected number it gave on the first day I started. (I took a screenshot on my phone the first day)
