Anybody have a hard time getting into the idea of a treadmil

I love running but I am a slow runner (like a 13min mile and a half) .... I enjoy running on the beach and various running trails well i love storms and rain but not when I am supposed to work out so any given time I can usually do 3+ miles when I am out in about. I got stuck going to the gym today and let me tell you I just couldn't get into the treadmill I ran a mile and was totally OVER IT!!!! did alittle bit of eliptical so that way I didnt feel like the trip was a total waste. Is anyone else going through this?

I hate treadmills. If I am going to walk, it will be outside where I get a view. I use the elliptical at the gym or the recumbant bike.0

I walk/run on my treadclimber almost every night during the week. I find sometimes that the time goes by really slow. But lately I have been turning the TV on and watching that while I walk/run. It helps the time go by faster.0

I just can't watch tv when I run my music is what I need and a flood of thoughts going through my mind that is why i think I hate the treadmill I hate having to make sure i am not going to fall off of that thing lol0

LOL I know how that is. My son will walk into the room and ask me to look at something and I will step the wrong way and almost fall flat on my face. I love running outside but our neighborhood has alot of un-leashed dogs that run around. I have tried to take my son for a walk/bike ride several times and they it just doesn't happen. The dogs end up chasing us. There really isn't anywhere "Safe" around where I live to go walking/running/bike ridding. So the treadclimber is my only option.0 -
I have just the opposite problem.
I too am a slow runner (I've worked up to a 12 minute mile.... about 5.0 on my treadmill). When outdoors, I tend to run too quickly, wearing myself out and not being able to go the distance/time I'd like. I also get involved in everything around me, trip and twist my ankles. I prefer the treadmill only because it forces me to keep a slower pace, enabling my distance/time goals.
I do have to keep occupied on the treadmill. I have a Running playlist with heavy beats to keep me moving. I try to get into something on the tv to keep me from counting seconds on the treadmill timer. It can be boring I agree.
I do enjoy running certain trails outdoors with friends, but they have to be nicely paved, even trails or like I said, I'm liable to break an ankle.0 -
I'm the EXACT same way. I like the treadmill because I can keep a pace up. I start running too fast outside. The concrete tends to hurt my knees worse that the treadmill does as well. But, since running outside is a challenge and there is a view, that is what I'm working towards. I live in Houston, though, and you hear so often about girls getting kidnapped while running so it makes me nervous to go alone.0

i absolutely loathe the treadmill..i have started getting into long distance and just cant do it on the treadmill...2 miles is my limit on the treadmill. I tend to want to run slower on the treadmill, hence i do not burn as many cals....i have just learned to bite the bullet, dress warm and run outside no matter how cold it is...only exception is rain.0

I walk on an incline or do the elliptical. What helps me is reading a magazine. It goes by really fast for me but without one... not so fun.0

I would tell every runner to invest in an MP3 player. I THINK that is common knowledge, but I'm not sure. Turn on some good workout music, and I'm good to go. Only problem is that sometimes I wear out my playlist and have to make a new one.0 -
I ran for years and years and years outside--part of the original Frank Shorter/Jim Fixx "running boom" of the 1970s. Like many here say, when I tried the treadmill, each minute seemed to last 10.
However, after a few injuries and going most of a decade with almost no running at all--guess what: the treadmill ain't such a bad alternative. I routinely run 45-60 min and have gone as long as 90, Like anything else, you get used to it.0
