Excellent little video on the need to use a food scale

MSF74 just posted this on another board. Great little video that's convinced me I have to go out NOW and buy a food scale. Alas, measuring cups and spoons are no longer my friends.

Enjoy, and thanks MSF74!

Food scales are the best! I learned to use one when I was actively baking. Ingredients for some more sophisticated recipes have to be spot on or the result will be terrible.

Love my food scale, I was so suprised early on by what I thought was a 'tablespoon' of peanut butter or some other condiment compared to weighing said tablespoon @ however many grams. I was probably doubling my amounts I was so off. Now I go by the scale.

While I agree 100% with the message and I weigh everything by grams whenever that option is available, I have to get nit-picky about the scooping assumption. I do find it difficult to believe that a person that is actively trying to measure foods for dieting purposes would scoop anything near that far over the tops of the measuring cups/spoons.

A non-dieting person just trying to stay within the approximate serving size, yes. Someone worried enough about counting calories to be specifically measuring in order to record calorie amounts, no, I can't honestly see that.

And if it's someone that was measuring like that while trying to diet, I then don't see them as someone serious enough to switch over to scales.

Though, this video does make me wonder if it would be easier to explain to people about why stuff like meat, rice, pasta, and veggies should be weighed prior to cooking instead of after. I've grown so weary of trying to explain that one to people that I've given up replying to those threads. But a video link wouldn't be difficult at all. I'll have to ponder this.
