Insanity makes my feet HURT!

Also my mid-inner shins make me cringe just lightly touching them and especially squatting down. I thought the pain would cease but It's going on three weeks now.
....any suggestions?

    Yeah!
My boyfriend was lightly squeezing my leg and I about screamed in pain.
le sigh...I'll just go easy in the workouts for a while.

Fortunately though, I can already feel muscle definition in my arms and I have a lot more endurance.

I had really bad foot pain was I was doing Insanity too. I asked the same questions and most people told be it was my shoes. I went and got really good running shoes and still it was there. For me it was a really hot burning feeling right on the ball of the foot. The shoes might have helped some but I think it was more of the hard basement floor I was on, which is just carpeted. I got a really good exercising mat, not a yoga mat, this is thicker and it seemed to help.

Hope it gets better for you.

are you wearing the proper shoes??

soreness in your muscles is normal after intense workouts -- sometimes I'm sore a few days after intense workouts.... BUT you have to use the proper 'equipment'.... I skimp on clothes (hell, I got two whole outfits at walmart the other day for running/working out for $23 - SCORE! and they're cute) - BUT I never skimp on shoes.... they make all the difference in the world..... especially with running and stuff where you have to jump around and all....

I wear running shoes for running and more of a walking/athletic shoe for insanity. It has more cushioning but less of the stability/pronate type support you get from a running shoe. And I'm a big guy that used to have tons of foot problems. Shoes are everything!!

I've not done insanity .... but have had foot pain due to exercise. A few ideas: (this sounds wierd) ... make sure your socks are good & fitted. You don't want your feet sliding around inside your shoes.

Your shoes .... how old are they? Worn shoes are not going to give you much support.

Stretching ..... look for runner's stretches .... calf stretches. Everyone is different ... you may just need to stretch more than other people. My problem area is my hamstrings .... I'm always doing extra stretches there.

My feet are killing me during some of the Insanity routines. I have never experienced this before. I am so glad to have found this post. My shoes are "newer" but after a round of Turbo Fire and half of Insanity, maybe it is time to get a new pair. Do they really wear out this quickly?

Does anyone know of a good shoe I should get? Running? Walking? Some other kind? My current pair is a pair of Gel Asics for running.

I'd highly recommend a cross trainer stye shoe for Insanity to give you proper support. Running/walking shoes are NOT for Insanity. Just not enough support.

The pain in your legs/feet is typically due to the new workouts/movements (let's face it, it's intense and it is High Intensity Interval Training) OR improper shoes. Proper recovery drink, added stretching will help out as well. I had the same pains when I started and about the 3rd week the pain was gone.

I've torn my left ACL into 2 pieces and did not have surgery for repair. Don't like to be cut on. So when it healed I've now got scar tissue around it and my doctors ask me all the time how much pain do I have. I have zero pain in that knee now. Before doing P90X or Insanity my knee would hurt just walking up 10 stairs. Now, after doing these workouts and losing 65 pounds my knee doesn't hurt at all. So my advice is to make sure you've got some proper shoes, a well padded floor or plyo mat to use and don't take the days off because you are sore during that program. You'll just get stiffer and next workout will be worse. Continuing thru even if it's 60-75% will help build your muscles up.

Alright, I get paid Friday, I'll get new shoes.
The all over soreness doesn't really happen anymore. Just my inner shins, its not a "sore" feeling, its a straight up pain feeling. Also in the mornings, I can barely stand up. In fact I usually stand up, then immediately fall on the floor in tears. It's a needle pain all over my feet.
In the meantime, I'll stretch more. Maybe do some more yoga.
I wear arch supports and thick socks every time but my feet do tend to slide around in my shoes.
And yes, I do do this on hardwood floors. Guess I'll get a mat as well.

    le sigh...
  • I would recommend not using running shoes during insanity. I had the same issue, and pain subsided as soon as i either went barefoot, or used a minimalist shoe. I am also an overpronator so my running shoes correct for this, but they were not a good fit for Insanity workouts.
