this plateau is really starting to kick my butt!

Ugh! As of December 16th, I'll have been going at this for 5 whole months-I've lost about 33lbs. But since 11/06 I have been stuck between 189-191 with NO movement! I know plateaus happen and all but really! A WHOLE month with no loss?! It's really kicking my motivation's *kitten* (in a bad way!). I'm varying up my exercise and have recently gone back to counting carbs as opposed to calories. With the first 30lbs. loss I was counting carbs. Maybe that's it?
Sending out an SOS! I have a weigh in tomorrow and will cry if there's no change!
HELP!:frown:

I know it sounds counterintuitive, but you might want to try increasing your calories.0

You know, I actually did try that! I upped my intake to about 2000 a day for a couple of weeks and saw no difference at all. So now I'm back to doing Atkins/South Beach-I'm eating around 15 to no more than 40 grams of carbs a day.0 -
Hey fellow low carber
I tried unsuccessfully for about a year to lose weight just by counting calories and in that year, lost 8lbs. I went to my doctor and was told due to PCOS I was insulin resistant - which meant when I cut back on carbs (about 3 weeks ago) I dropped weight fast.
I don't do anything drastic, and I don't put my body in ketosis, I just monitor how many carbs I have per meal. I allow no more than 25/meal and no more than 80/day. In the past 3 weeks I've lost 5 pounds and I expect another 2 pounds this week.
I'm not saying what worked for me will work for you because weight loss is an extremely individual thing - just that next time you see the doctor, you may want to point out that not watching your carbs stalls your weight loss. There could be an underlying problem. :flowerforyou:0 -
Hang in there!! If you are doing the right things it will come off! I have had plateaus lasting as long as 12 weeks but then as I continue to switch things up it starts to come off again.
Bottom line: Dont' quit!!!!
You know what will happen if you do quit but if you try something new and keep going you can only win!!:flowerforyou:0 -
My husband says the first pounds are easy Fat! after that you have to work even harder!
I have been working on the same pounds forever! I drop inches but the pounds are a constant fight for me if I wouldn't get bruises I would beat them off with a stick lol.
I look at it this way if I stop working out then i will just go backwards and that isn't an option.
Plus my workouts relieve alot of stress0 -
It's time to kick that plateau's butt! That must be frustrating to be stalled for that long. Have you tried shaking up your exercise routine? Have you added in resistence training yet? Both of those can help break a plateau. You could always try taking a week off from calorie (or carb) counting and exercise, and see if that helps break it. Sometimes, if you go up a couple of pounds, and then start back at it, the weight will start coming off again.0

BrendaLee: yes, I'm totally shaking up the exercise! I rotate between my exercise bike, 5 or 6 different walking DVDs, yoga and kettlebell workouts. I've also done 2 weeks of upping my calories and 2 weeks of lowering them and it made no difference!!
Hannah_Banana: Great job on losing your weight following low carb! I'll slowly up my carb intake as the weight starts to come off again, but for now I'm eating under 30g a day.
Thanks everyone for telling me to not give up! I know I'm doing right by my health and weight but it just gets frustrating to not see the scale change!0
