Wedding dress too small - 4 months to fit, can it be done?!

Hello friends!
I have a bit of a dilemma where I could use some "been there, done that" advice. I never thought - especially after already losing 50 lbs - that I would be that "omg I need to get in shape for my wedding" bride. Dresses come in all shapes and sizes and what bride doesn't look loveliest on her wedding day?! Why add stress to your wedding?
Well, that was until I found THE dress.
This dress is awesome, completely me, and hallelujah - off the rack and a BARGAIN! But in order to get into that bargain I need to get into this dress. Getting into this dress means getting the dress I want NOW (so no worries I'm going to be surprised or get a dress too late) and getting the dress for $1,200 less than ordering it.
I've got four months till my first fitting, which means around four months to lose 2 inches from my bust/waist/hips. I know you might be thinking "hey that's easy!" but is it? It took me four years to lose 40 lbs - technically to reach my goal weight I have eight more lbs and it's been the hardest so far to take off. I'm less worried about weight right now and more focused on inches. Other than drinking lots of water and upping my strength training, do you have any additional advice?
I already do about 50 mins of cardio a day and push ups/sit ups/squats once or twice a week. Calorie intake is an average of about 1500 a day, except on the weekends, I'll usually hit about 1800-2000 (I LOVE WINE).
Thank you so much!
ps- feel free to add me if you want, in the same sort of boat, etc!

Go get a pair of spanx and see if that can help you out a little.. with 4 months, I think you can do it, but I would enlist a trainer that can work with you to get you where you need to be.
Best of luck to you!0 -
You already look pretty fit and your profile says 124 lbs so I am thinking that 2 inches might be hard to get off. If you had a lot of extra weight I could see it happening but looking at your profile I don't think it will happen. Check the inseems of the dress to see how much you can take it out.0

perhaps cut out the weekend wine for the next 4 months... that's about 12 weekends, x the extra 300-500 calories each weekend day (24) is 7200-12,000 calories right there... (2-3.5 lbs)0

First off, congrats on getting married soon and finding the dress! I think you can lose the inches in that time frame. What are your marcos set at? I find I lose more inches when I'm sticking close to a 40% carbs/30% protein/30% fat ratio.
Also, what kind of cardio are you doing? You might see more inch loss if you cut back on the cardio to 30-45 mins 3xs a week and then add in more strength training or maybe replace your current cardio with programs like 30 Day Shred, P90X, etc. and do that the full term.0 -
Get insanity, get a trainer, get some spanx and work your booty off literally. YOU CAN DO IT!0

Thanks ladies! I'm pretty determined but I also want to be realistic. Saving money is great but if I'm gonna end up buying a new dress cos I can't fit into the current one that's not good! I just checked the dress' size chart online and it looks like actually my hips and bust are in line with the sizing but it's my waist that's actually 2 inches too big...
Me:
35 x 27 x 35.5
Dress:
35 x 25 x 35
The dress can be let out 1 inch actually - so maybe I can meet it half-way??
Girl problems!!0 -
How about a tight fitting corset?0
-
I think 4 months is reasonable....you can do it (or meet halfway). Congrats on your upcoming wedding! :flowerforyou:0

A lot of women on here lift weights and lose crazy inches! If you are okay with ignoring the scale in favor of inches it's something you could research!
GOOD LUCK! I don't think it's a crazy goal given that it could be let out a little.0 -

Thanks! I think my macros are right around your 40/30/30 - I could definitely afford to get higher up on the protein tho (I'm a pescetarian and admittedly don't eat as much protein on a daily basis as I should.). I would LOVE to do something like P90x, but not to make excuses, but I live in an apartment with all hard-wood floors and my downstairs neighbor might not enjoy the jumping around. But maybe I can pass on the more aerobic circuits and stick with the weights?
Right now I do elliptical almost exclusively and take walks here and there. I definitely don't want to do any more of that!0 -

It sounds scary but yes, I'd be willing to do that! I no longer subscribe to "women shouldn't lift weights or they'll just add inches" but I can't say that from experience. I once did boot camp for three months, lost 1/2 a lb but for the first time I could feel muscle in my arm. I wish I had measured!0 -

I've thought about that tho the dress already has some boning in it.. gonna try to take a picture, stay tuned!0 -

I don't lift yet...don't have the equipment or money for the gym at the moment, but these threads motivate me!0 -
I'm thinking that a good corset or product like Spanx should be able to help you pull in your waist another inch or so. With some dedicated eating and strength training habits for the next four months the other inch should be doable. Cutting out wine on the weekends is probably your easiest way to lose an extra pound or two during that time. I honestly think you can do this.0

Can you incorporate protein shakes, like whey to hit your protein levels? I know 30 DS has some jumping stuff, but not all of the P90X workouts do. You could use those as a guide for strength training and then on the cardio days, you can do something else. Maybe try doing the C25K program or something other than the elliptical? I don't think you'll see the results you want by doing the elliptical only.0

You have a 27" waist and you think you need to be smaller.... and for a dress that you will wear once? (I shouldn't have read this post!) lol.
Enjoy your wedding.0 -
You have to change the img to lowercase. Pretty dress though! What does the front look like?0 -

Oh my dear, trust me, I know- completely silly! It doesn't help I love clothes too much. I'm in it to win it only for myself tho, no one else!0 -

Yes, looking at my weekly diary, the weekends are what's kind of killing me, and a big part of it is wine. It's funny, cos I don't like any sugary drinks - I mainly stick to vodka soda or wine. No beer, no fruity drinks, and that's without trying. But four glasses of wine is nearly 500 extra calories on a Saturday,,, I might be sad for a few months But would be worth it, right?!0 -
2 inches?? Let out dress. Get some spanks. Should not be a problem. You look small in your profile pic. Might be hard to lose 2 inches.
Okay just saw pic. Tie back together and get a bow to cover opening or something. Dress could be let out some. Your waist is 27" and you want smaller? ( yeah I don''t think I should have read it either...lol)0 -
I'd do it! Even if you don't get down to where you want to be, you can remove the buttons and add "loops" to that side (to match the opposite side) and lace it up like a corset with a satin tie, in an open "v" shape, I hope you know what I mean. WIth what you save, you can have someone do that little bit of sewing for you. No one will know it didn't come that way!0
-
I had my dress let out just days before our wedding. Be smart - get the dress you want and have it fitted to you - don't stress yourself out trying to squeeze into it.
Congrats on finding THE dress! :flowerforyou:0 -
Yes it can be done! Word of caution though, don't lose too much weight. For my wedding last fall I ended up toning up to much that last few weeks and had a hard time keeping the dress on. Try P90X for a great toned & healthy figure. It's a little easier on the joints than Insanity or P90X2 and mixes things up enough to keep things interesting.0
-
Can you have the buttons replaced with a corset back? That would solve all the issues.0
-
Do you eat wheat/gluten products? Just throwing this out there, I have not tried it, but A LOT of people say that they lose inches in the waist/belly area when they go gluten free. Can't hurt to try it for a few months to see if that helps...0
-
Dress sounds amazing. Do you know a competent tailor or seamstress? Depending on how the dress is constructed, you might be able to get a little bit more room.0
-
Yeah I definitely don't want to lose too much more weight! When I was 165 lbs, I had a 32" waist. So I'd estimate about with each 10 lbs I lose, I lost about 1.2 inches from my waist. Not completely accurate but an estimate. Clearly I can't lose 20 lbs nor would I want to but I hear it's possible to lose inches without dropping as much weight!0
-
I should have also mentioned. From January through June I only lost about 2 pounds, but went from a size 10 to a size 6 by doing the first 2 months of Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer from bodybuilding.com and then I switched to Stronglifts 5x5. Lifting will help you lose inches!0
