Caramel food coloring in TEA?!

At lunch today I was in a hurry, so I grabbed a tea out of one of the grab-n-go coolers. I looked on the label to check it out as I usually do, expecting to just see "tea" as the ingredient. NOPE!
The first ingredient was tea, and the second was CARAMEL COLORING. Are you serious? Isn't tea NATURALLY caramel colored? It certainly is when I make it at home.
Someone please explain to me why food coloring is placed into foods that are already naturally that color?
