Running....

I am training for a half marathon...slowly getting there. In week 9 of 16 week program - up to a distance of 7 mile run as my biggest (ever actually). Next week puts me up to 8. Earlier this week I was struggling with - what are you thinking - 1/2 marathon???? Well turns out I got a boost yesterday....I was running on the treadmill at the club and a "real" runner was waiting on the treadmill I was on - seems like at least once a week I wait for him or he's waiting for me to get done...we have small chats in the transition...well he asked me last night what my longest run so far was and I told him...he told me it was fantastic to keep it up. He told me to keep my increases to 10% or less - I explained the program I am doing (off of Runners World) and he said that the recovery weeks are so important and to make sure I did them - to learn from his mistakes. Well still feeling kind of burnt, went home had supper did dishes--time for Biggest Loser...well in BL fashion, they had the 4 finalists run a FULL 26.2 marathon...watching Amanda cry while she ran made me realize I've come nowhere close to that point and I CAN KEEP GOING....just needed those reminders and funny how they came right when I needed them. I am excited to go do my 6 mile run today, then 7 miles for Saturday...mileage wise, my biggest run week ever-15 miles!

My point-we all have a breaking point but truly how many of us have worked to that point - I know I have more in me!

Awesome job! I think it's completely normal to feel a little bit down while training but push through it. And like the guy at the gym said, take your rest weeks seriously! They are so important! I'm so proud of you for pushing through! I can't wait to hear how you feel when you cross that finish line. Which half marathon are you doing?

Congrats on the weightloss! AMAZING!!! You're a rock star, you look fantastic!!!!

I had hoped to do Myrtle Beach but it's filling up pretty quick and I really don't know if my training would be done by then (if I decide to repeat weeks...with all the holidays if I don't get the runs in, I'll repeat and keep moving forward)

I've found a couple others - does anyone know do you really HAVE to preregister or are there openings on race days??

From what I've seen when I was looking for 1/2 marathons for '10, you have to preregister AND there are no packet pickups on race day. You'd probably really rather have all that stuff out of the way beforehand anyway. For what it's worth I totally think you could make the MB 1/2 if you are up to 7 miles already. You still have a full 2 months. Just saying.

Satellite Crush - the half is now full - I just looked last week. I'll have to look for another in the southeast...
