Hi,
Watched a programme on BBC about reducing a form of insuline in the body which helps the body to repare old cells, one of the ways of doing this was by doing to fast days (only having 600 cals) a week.
I have been trying this out for a few weeks now, has anyone else heard of this or tried it?

Wait a minute.. Only 600 cals a week?! Thats waaay too dangerous :O
I am fully aware of something called Internittent Fasting.
Where you fast 24hrs a time just 1-3 days a week and it works really effectively and I have lost weight this way :-)0 -
Sorry I meant 2 fast days a week, each fast day only 600 cals. I am doing this on top of my normal diet of 1600 cals a day.0

Yes I have done this - Usually on Fridays during Lent
Though I am not a fan of eating so little, I usually do feel better after - I assumed that was just a spiritual better.0 -
Not at all,
Our bodies produce a certain chemical when we eat (particularly protein). This chemical cause the body to produce new cells. This becomes an issue when our bodies are constantly doing this. By having these fast days (600 cals) the amount of this chemical decreases and our bodies go in to repair mode, repairing damaged cells. This can help prevent against many diseases and cancers.
Well that is what they said on the BBC programme anyway.
I figure that I can't hurt me and it does seem to help my weight loss, so double bonus.0 -
I have been doing this since I watched the programme early August, so this is my 5th week. Only 500 for me as a woman. I am on 1500 the other 5 days as I am trying to lose weight. I am hoping that aside from weight loss now and assistance with maintainence In the future, I will reduce risk of heart disease and cancer. I have had high BP and cancer previously, so feel need for any preventative measures going.
I am very happy with this regime it suits me, but I realise it might not be for everyone.0
