To rest, or not to rest?

I try to workout every day. I'll take the day off if I feel too sick or crampy or whatever, but those days are few and far between. Maybe 1-2 per month. On the days that I'm not working out, I feel like I am somehow sabotaging my weight loss by not trying hard enough. So here's my question:

How often do you take "Rest Days"? Do you find them to be beneficial, or do you prefer to just power through the week with no breaks?

Replies

  • I just take them as they come along, there are some days where things come up that I need to do and I don't have the time or energy left to do my normal routine. while i was really working on losing the weight, these would happen once or twice a week, now i'm just trying to maintain so i'm a little more relaxed about it, but I still try to work out at least every other day and usually more. it feels good to do it

I have one or two active rest days, with nothing more strenuous than a walk a week, and one or two true rest days a month.

I do something pretty much every day but at least one day a week it's something very low impact & low intensity such as walking or a leisurely bike ride.

Fatigue is cumulative, even when you're getting plenty of sleep your body needs time to recover.

So take a rest/recovery day but it doesn't mean you have to sit on your butt and watch tv - it can still be active.

You should take a "rest" day that being said I do yoga or walk around the block. I don't want to take an off day yet because I am pretty sedentary so a day off isn't good for me. Also I am scared if I take a day off I will lose my momentum and fall off the exercise wagon.
