Hello there, I have been on MFP since May. I have lost 30 something lbs using this wonderful sight. I have however reached a major plateau and have been fluctuating between 5lbs. My question is, I work as a administrative assistant and thus chose sedentary. However I workout for at least 40 minutes everyday. My calorie intake is set at 1580. I don't know what to do to get out of this funk.
Any help would be welcomed.

I had a two year plateau of going up and down five pounds until I could just scream. Strength training worked for me. Within two weeks, that plateau was history and I'm going down again.0

I am just out of a 2 month plateau. Grr. They are difficult on the motivation, but stick with your program (or maybe change it up a bit). You can do it!!!0

I just got past my almost 2 month plateau. I had lowered my cals (was eating back a lot of my exercise cals too), upped my water to almost a gallon a day and added a 6th day of cardio/strength and still the scale wasn't budging. I tried something new last week....I don't eat after 6pm now and I lost 4.3lbs in 6 days. It was very stressful but you just have to push past it. Move a little more, cut something out, add something new to your routine....just don't let it bring you down. Good luck!0

I think I will stop eating after 7pm. It may work! Also I have not had a rest day all month.0

How does strength training reduce weight?0 -
I can sure use some information on strength training. I have been doing the biggest loser 10 minutes. But I don't think I am doing enough.0

Off the top of my head:
- Calorie cycling
- Carb cycling
- Changing your exercise routine
- Changing your exercise
- Relax for a week or two - don't exercise
- Increase your caloric intake by 100-300
- Decrease your caloric intake by 100-2000 -
The strength training has been working for me because I'm building more lean body mass that burns calories. I believe it also makes me feel stronger and increases my energy levels, also burning calories. I'm currently doing a free 30-day dumbbell challenge that I found online. Every day is different which I appreciate because I get bored really easily.
I've had lots of trainers suggest strength to me in the past as a way to bust through a plateau. For me it worked and I wish I had listened sooner.0
