previously posted on my wall but would like any kind of input, thanks in advance
So I was at Walmart last night picking up last minute supplies for the kiddies and I came across a Gold's Gym Barbell set (I drooooled) it's about 100 lbs and costs 50 bucks. I seriously considered purchasing it, especially since my last couple of weeks have been extremely hectic and have not been able to get into the gym. Only thing is that it said it was vinyl weights (I think) is their really a difference between weights???

The bar won't sit up as high off the ground as it needs to for some lifts, and won't be as durable, but it may not be that big of a deal.
If that barbell gets you working out and doing more, it's easily worth $50.0 -
If you're going to invest in a barbell I would spend a little more and get a proper Olympic bar.
Deadlifting with those vinyl weights sucks because they are the wrong size.0 -

Get it. For $50, how wrong can you be? And you can always sell them for about half that later. I'm assuming 100lbs is a weight that challenges you on some exercises, and you'll have it right there in your home.
But as soon as you see a squat rack on sale, buy it, so you can set your weights up in the rack and do bicep curls.0 -
For a beginner kind of set, that is a pretty good price. Most of the weights I have bought, whether they are plates or dumbbells, have been on the order of a dollar per pound.
The vinyl set doesn't have the durability of plates and as previously stated wouldn't be the right size for some moves (most notably deadlifts), but I fully agree with the posters that have recommended it if it will jump start you into working out!0 -
