I started running again after a year long hiatus, I started about 3 weeks ago and im feeling great however i have noticed a gain on the scale. I am still tracking my food (not always on here as i dont have a access all the time but at least on paper) And my dietary habits are still alright. I dont remember this from when i ran before however i wasnt weighing myself at that point or really trying to lose weight. Did anyone else have this happen? Or any reason why that you could think of? Thanks

If your are sure you are not eating back more than you are burning it is probably water weight. Give it a few weeks and see if it falls off (I run alot and still have the moments after really hard runs or races where I can see several pounds add up and then fall off as recovery does its thing.)

That said, really check your intake component and the amount you are counting for the runs. In the end it is calorie deficit and other issues that are temporary will fade into the trend down over time.

I didn't see an immediate loss either, but chalked it up to building muscle and retaining water. It will come off, just stay consistent!

Yup. I'm at 4 weeks and last week had a 1 lb gain. I'm pretty sure it was a combination of the fact that I had lost 3 lbs the week before (which was most likely water weight) so now that you've gotten rid of the water weight and are now losing real weight, it'll take a little longer for it to come off. A combination of that, and the fact that since you just started running again, your muscles are more likely to grow faster, so you've probably gained about a 1/2 lb of muscle as well. Don't give up! I run 5 days out of the week and it seems to be working so far.
  • Thanks everyone! I looked and my food diaries and food intakes really carefully and i did notice today that i only ate about 1130 so im going to try to eat a little more and see if that makes a difference.
