The urge to weigh!

I know I can't be the only one fighting this battle! It's the OTHER battle with the scale. I have to fight so hard not to weigh myself everyday. I know that I should really be aiming for once a week, but the thing stares me down in the bathroom, "Are you done yet? Haven't you lost weight yet? Come on, let's see..."
It's SO frustrating! I find myself trying to trick the scale into saying lower number! xD I'll weigh myself, and then weigh myself after going to the restroom and working out and before lunch, and before I drink my post-work out water! It's ridiculous, and adds up to lots of disappointment.
Anybody else fighting the scale temptation?

I don't have scales in the house. I can't. I'm OCD when it comes to weighing myself. Sooo my advice is drop them off at a family member's or friend's house- at least until after you lose the weight. You'll be a lot happier without the temptation.0

You're probably right! But it doesn't help that I work out with the Wii! My work out machine is a scale!0

I do it all the time. I make bets with myself, weigh myself with different layers of clothes, different times of day...on and on. The number doesn't distress me though. The only weigh in that "counts" is the weekly one, the rest of it is just curiosity for me.0

I am with Brenda Lee, I gave my home scales to one of my sisters and have never asked for it back (don't intend to either).0

Then you have to commit to only weighing yourself when you do your workouts or you'll go crazy. :P0 -
I am also a scaleaholic but Thank God the one at home does not work and I do not want to get a new one. There is one here at work because we have a biggest loser competition going on so it is hard to stay away from it. I have been doing much better though, now instead of everyday, it is every other day. Since I am in a competition I like to see where I stand and it helps as motivation to work harder when the numbers go up a little, even in ounces.
You are not alone.0 -
this is my problem. when i first started losing weight it was no big deal i got on once a month or once every two weeks and didnt even think about it till the night before. just recently ive noticed im obsessed with it its constantly in my mind like should i get on or maybe tomorrow. so i made my family hide it from me, i actually went looking for it and now its hidden again haha.0

I am laughing right now because I do this too!!! I am amazed how much a towel on wet hair can add.
I do use it to watch my salt intake somewhat. If I pizza one night and weigh four pounds more hte next day I know it is usually water weight and will try to work on it.
Sunday mornings before I get dressed is my "official" weigh time.0 -
I know everyone says not to weigh everyday, but it kind of keeps me motivated. I like to see my progress daily. My scale does very precise measurements, so I can see if I've lost .2 or .5 or whatever. And yes, some days I gain, but I know it fluctuates. It kind of makes me feel more in control somehow. I don't think it has to be a bad thing.0

mine is under the desk in the corner of a room. out of sight out of mind...for a while anyway.0

I fight the same thing every morning! I used to refuse to have a scale in the house but my mom bought one while I was gone last year and now it is such a compulsion. I have my sister/cheerleader reminding me not to go near it, but it definitely haunts me.
You should try hiding it or have some one else hide it for you and only get it out on weigh in days.
(I tried that, but my mom refuses to put it out of sight so, I am working off of shear willpower! Maybe someone in your household would be willing to put it up for you. :ohwell: )

I weighed myself every day until . . . Thanksgiving. Now I am afraid to get on it. I didn't do too badly during Thanksgiving, but I refuse to get on the scale. Tomorrow, I go to Disney World for a week and I'm strategizing on what healthy snacks to bring. I asked for vegan meals on the airplane. Not that I am a vegan, but I know I won't feel the guilt I normally would with airplane meals. I figure I will weigh myself when I get back.0

I have a system. I wake up. I change the baby. I get her a cup of milk. I go pee. I weigh myself. EVERY DAY. I only log my weight once a week, if that. I like seeing where I'm at. It's reassuring & calming to me to see the numbers sliding down. My scale does pounds and ounces. And long as the ounces is moving down, I'm happy.0

What I try, is to vary my measurment methods. Once a week I do a real weigh in. In the middle of the week if I feel the need I hop on the scale at work, and take it with a grain of salt because I know it weights heavier than the one at home. Finally, if I feel a need to measure progress more often, I either get out the measuring tape or try on old clothes. Often even when the weight numbers are slow, the shape change is more obvious and I get a real boost instead of a bringdown because I gained a half pound or something.
I have found that when I try to weigh every day it becomes much less of a pleasure to see results. There is something so much more satisfying in seeing a couple of pounds off than an ounce. But anyway, good luck, and keep on trying.0 -
Oh that's simple! I was addicted too- I would check every few hours I don't know why, my cousin who bought it for me helped me out, she told me to give my scale to my brother who would hide it and give it back every saturday night so I could check in the morning. Slowly but surely lol. Now I keep it in my closet and check every Sunday woo hoo!! Good luck love! :flowerforyou:0

Not everyone says not to weigh every day -- a Brown University study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that people who had a support group and weighed themselves every day were better able to maintain weight loss because they were able to take quick action to correct any gain: "Intervention participants who weighed themselves daily had an 82 percent reduction in the odds of regaining five or more pounds." http://www.brown.edu/Administration/News_Bureau/2006-07/06-035.html0

That's good news for me!0 -
Honestly, I didn't start winning the weight battle until after I started university, and I have to credit the fact that I no longer have access to a scale for that. It seemed like all of a sudden the little things (like jean buttons doing up a smidge easier) became so much more important, and then when I went home 3 weeks later it was just like, - wow! I've lost 6lbs! PLUS you can't weigh yourself after a bad day, and when numbers fluctuated in the wrong direction ( even though I consciously knew I just ate half my weight) it triggered a binge, or an outright collapse in will power. Now even though I do occasionally overeat (maybe frequently ) I just get on with it. One bad meal will not make you gain weight, and I had to lose my scale to realize that..
So get rid of them! Awful things! lol
And go get yourself a tape measure instead0 -
I weigh myself every day. It helps me to track when I've accidently (or intentionally) gone over my calories. If I over eat, I see it the next day, and it makes me work harder.
I don't understand why people only weigh in once a week.0 -
I weigh myself every day (most of time several times a day ) my hubby says he will take it away...I like having it...it keeps me going... I know some days i will gain, but i like seeing even those fractions of a lb.0
