I have these 80 calorie instant mashed potatoes, they aren't too bad. What I am soo confused about the package. It says prepared a serving size is 2/3 cup and there is 4 servings in the package...there is just no way. I get about 2 1/2 servings. I only eat one serving hubby eats one and we split the 1/2 for my girls....i just don't get it.

If it's instant, it expands in size. It's like rice. A 1/2 cup makes 1 cup cooked. So your 2/3 cup makes 4 servings prepared. At least I think that's how it goes.
  • man those things are horrible for you... ok now that I got that out (sorry) are you absolutely sure that your servings are only 2/3 of a cup? that would mean that when it's cooked there are 2 2/3 cups of "potatos".... I dont know cause Im not there... perhaps you need to weigh the portions.
  • I hate those... I make those for my hubby and me, and it's like a spoonful for each of us and that's it. I take a bite and it's all gone. I don't agree with those serving suggestions at all.

Bah, next time buy some cauliflower. Steam it, smash it till your arms ache, then whip it with some half and half and light seasoning. Then you'll have something healthier than mashed potatoes, and it tastes similar.

Mashed cauliflower. That's my answer to everything these days, lol.

Bah, just make your own mashed potatoes! Fat free or light buttermilk is the answer. Potatoes are *good* for you, folks!

Red skinned mashed, leave the skin on (fiber is good for ya too!). Just use skim milk and I can't believe it's not butter. Yummy!

mashed cauli is nothing like regular cauli, trust me, I hate it too regular, but mashed, its great. Little tip, pick up one of the hand held mixers, they make the job very easy, and if you use a little low fat yogurt, some garlic powder, and some low fat parmigiana cheese, it comes out smooth, creamy, and awesome.

I don't understand why sometimes the measurements are so far off on package labels. I found the same thing with a package of barley. It says a serving size is 1/4 cup uncooked (it also gives a gram measurement, which I'm sure is much more accurate) and that there are approximately 14 servings per package. The thing is, there's just a little bit more than two cups dry in a package, which is more like eight or nine 1/4-cup servings. At least that's the way MY math works.
