I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question but ever since I have woken up my muscles up the sides of my abdomen have been killing me, whenever i twist,

had some paracetamol as that's all i have in the house and did nothing, but going to head to the supermarket, but i want to get something useful

Any recommendations? It's deffo muscle pain and not like tummy ache or pain from my organs. I think maybe i needed to warm up more before exercising yesterday, just over done it a bit

Thanks in advance for any tips

Get more blood flowing to that area by mimicking the movement that made you sore but much lighter. Don't make a work out of it just get it mobile. Don't take pain medicine. Enjoy your soreness.

It depends on the cause of the abdominal pain really.

Ibuprofen would be a better choice than paracetamol though.

Thanks everyone, I'm just starting my second week now of MFP and of any real healthy eating/living plan so it's all very very new to me!

I was thinking gentle stretching might help I didn't want to do anything to vigorous and make it 10 times worse, maybe some gentle yoga

I will see how it goes tomorrow but hearing your comments and reading up about it, it's actually so common when you start working out, I had no idea!

Sounds like you're suffering from DOMS. If it's the first week or so of training, it is basically your body reacting to the change in lifestyle. You should find it is nowhere near as bad after a workout during the end of the 2nd week onwards.

Try some stretching. Also, eat stuff with potassium in it, or take a potassium vitamin. That helps muscle cramps and helps them in the future. For example - eat a banana. It helps with menstrual cramps as well.

Ice for 20 minutes, then heat pad for 20 minutes...I do that with shoulders.....(You can do this for abs)

For legs...15 minutes Ice bath, then 10 minutes Hot shower...It feels so good after I do that!

Gentle long-hold stretches usually feel good, and if you're a comfortable swimmer, I really like swimming some slow lengths. It seems to really nicely just slowly stretch out all my muscles. (if you're more of a flailer, it won't do you any good, and you can ignore the suggestion.)

thanks everyone, i was eating a banana as I saw the post about it so that was good timing aha! Going to try some hatha yoga which is lovely and gentle. Wish I could go swimming but the local pool is shut for refurbishments, can't wait till it re-opens as hopefully I will feel confident enough to go!

    thanks again =)
